Is there a way to get a video input to nav screen without using a Costaltech adapter?

    Just as the title says...

Id like a video input but I dont want to shell out $299. :/

Is there a video in for the rear back up camera? Maybe I could install a switchbox and add a video in for my cell phone.

    Possible?

Also, for people who have added video to their MFD, how is the screen resolution? Is it even worth the effort? I have an 08 pkg 6 with OEM nav.

I have pretty much the same question for a 2008 Gen II, which did not come originally equipped with a camera or a nav system. I am trying to install one of these cheap backup cameras I bought on eBay to the non-nav mfd. Thought I had it figured out from some sites & articles I found on the web before I ordered my camera. But, when I pulled the mfd out this past weekend to connect the camera, I found out that I have a 28-pin socket instead of a 40-pin like I have seen in all the sites & articles. I guess maybe that is b/c I don't have the nav system(?).

Jimbo69ny: Maybe these attached files that I found while searching the web will help you, I don't know. I am thinking you can figure out from these where the camera input wires go. (The photo file is in spanish. I attempted an online translation, which is in the Word file.) I can't confirm any of it is right, since the sockets/connectors for my non-nav model are different, and I haven't been able to try mine yet.

I need similar info for the non-nav model. Anyone know which pins to tap for the camera (CA+) and the reversing signal feeds when you have the non-nav, 28-pin mfd version? Help, someone? Please & Thanks!

You need to connect the reverse 12V signal to activate the display's video input.
If you fit a switch, you can have it always off, on selecting reverse or always on.
The reverse signal is available from behind the dash or put a line from the rear lights together with the camera lines.

The EXE versions have the REV signal on the central connector (5H, Pin 14)
The SOL have it on the connector IF, Pin 6

The pictures are from the german priusfreunde forum, specifically their priuswiki

Is that any chance to instal camera on base MFD with 28 pin connector instead of 40?

    Hi guys,
I have read many topics about rear camera install multiple times, and here is my question:
We have a 2007 Prius Executive (Germany model), and it has Navigation, but no camera.I would like to know if there is an easy and affordable way to add the rear camera. One of the posts here mentioned that models 2007 and newer have the wires already installed.
When we removed the covering in the trunk behind the camera, we found a free connector (picture attached).
Please let me know if anyone has any knowledge about this issue.

If the wires going into the connector are white with black stripes (Toyota’s usual color code for ground wires), with the possible exception of one black wire, and the connector is in the rear of the car, it’s probably the S20 Junction Connector, part of the ground (DC return) distribution system; one of the wires is connected to a ground point on the body. In Toyota vehicles, junction connectors are used to connect several wires together, rather than to connect a wire harness to equipment or to a different wire harness.

I don’t know if a Prius made in 2007 would have the wiring for a backup camera, which Toyota calls the Rear Television Camera Assembly. If this wiring is present, then you might find connector V6 inside the back door (liftgate); this is a four-position, sealed connector with a black housing, connected to white, red, and black wires in a shielded cable. At the audio head unit, these wires would be connected to terminals 7, 8, 16, and 15 of connector L148, a sixteen-position connector with a white housing.

The complete Electrical Wiring Diagram for your car (EM12A6E) is available by subscription to Toyota-Tech.eu. This document doesn’t say, however, which unused wires or connectors are present on vehicles that weren’t built with the options that require them.

    Thank you,
I think the wires are white with black stripes. Also one could be black... I guess this is not for camera, right?
How will I recognize the V6 connector? By wire colors?
    Audio head unit is radio?

    You’re welcome.
    Correct.
Yes, along with the color of the housing (black), the number of terminals (four), and that it’s a sealed (water-resistant) connector. The approximate location is also shown in the Electrical Wiring Diagram.
Yes. In a Prius car with a backup camera, the picture is displayed there when reversing.

    Hello again,
I am still looking for the solution for our Prius 2 camera...
This seller claims that a simple cable kit should easily solve the problem for cars with no camera.
    It's called "
Camera Connection Cable for Toyota Prius / Lexus RX with Multifunctional MFD GEN5 Display"

Can I please hear of your thoughts?
