After listening to Attorney Lehto's podcasts regarding the Michigan lemon law, I contacted his office and spoke with him. Feel free to make a contact yourself with Attorney Lehto. Here is a link to his office. Michigan Lemon Law Attorney - Law Office of Steve Lehto

I would think that refusing to document a problem to avoid lemon laws would be illegal.

What would happen if a lawyer took the car in and educated the dealer? That could be interesting...

As you can see from the article linked below regarding Toyota hiding a deadly "unintended acceleration" problem, I believe Toyota is also hiding the Prius speedometer problem.
I believe it is simply a matter of time before someone is killed due to the Toyota Prius speedometer problem while driving at an incorrect speed. I can't think of any other reason why Toyota would advise their dealers not to document the Prius speedometer issue and refuse to fix this problem unless Toyota wants to hide this safety issue from vehicle safety agencies and regulatory agencies. If Toyota really cares about vehicle safety, Toyota should fix their speedometer defect immediately or crush the Prius vehicles they manufactured with an unrepairable speedometer defect.

Frankly, at this point, I don't believe you. You presented the exact scenario that he described in his article, in the state in which he's licensed to practice law, and he disagreed that there was a lemon law case?

You keep barking up the wrong trees.

It has been pointed out repeatedly that this vehicle is compliant with vehicle safety laws at the time and place it was sold. Your non-compliance and safety defect arguments don't hold water.

It is also not a lemon. No surprise that no attorney has agreed to take your lemon claim.

The only recourse I can see is to try the UCC angle about suitability for the intended use, an implied warranty of merchantibility. It is missing a feature that was advertised, and that is necessary for your application. You relied on the feature list that included that item when you purchased the product. Thus, if they can't fix it, they should take it back. But for some reason, you keep declining to bark up this UCC tree, and instead keep circling around and barking at the NHTSA and lemon law trees. No wonder you are not getting anywhere.

By now, you may even have squandered too much time to demand a UCC solution.

Now that would be a scenario where trading the car in for a newer model (with km/h-mph switchable) would be cheaper.

I agree with you fuzzy1 regarding the UCC solution. I am surprised that Toyota refuses to correct their speedometer issue.

Attorney Lehto said he wanted four documented repair attempts as described in the Michigan lemon law. Feel free to contact the Law Office of Steven Lehto at 248-546-6626, the telephone number listed on his website Michigan Lemon Law Attorney - Law Office of Steve Lehto. Attorney Lehto is easy to reach by phone or email. Please report back to us with your findings. Maybe after you call Attorney Lehto, you will believe that I spoke with him just like you or anyone else with a lemon vehicle question can contact his office.

I asked at my local dealer about the problem of switching from MPH to KM. They told me that if there's enough feedback about the inability to make the switch, Toyota would issue an update. I've let them know I want it and hopefully enough people will complain that we'll get it.

I'd say @Prius Team would be a good user to ping, too (just by typing that in the post) - that's a group at Toyota (US) corporate that may also be able to collect that feedback.

They answered in post 38 that they were investigating. Radio silence since then.

Sure, but more expressions of interest in this being fixed will likely help raise the priority.

It's software, damn it! Send an OTA patch for affected US Prius owners. Toyota, you're better than this.

    just found this thread.
Friend of mine who takes salvaged cars from US to Europe had said that, indeed models before March 2016 dont have kph/kph option change but later ones can be change via radio settings but I dont know if it is true.

It is true. US people who regularly travel across the border to Canada were especially unhappy. Canada uses km/h.

You'd actually change it via the steering wheel buttons, not the radio, but that's beside the point - this is specifically about cars produced from December 2015 through February 2016, where that doesn't work, the option simply isn't there. And it's not in the radio, either (not that that would help, it only changes navigation I thought).
