How much can I get if I scrap a 2006 Prius?

Scrap is generally around $200 to $300.

You may be able to find an independent mechanic that can replace it for a bit closer to $3,000.
How many miles on it?

 

put it on crags list, you should be able to do pretty well. someone will throw in a rebuilt battery and have a nice little car for cheap. 163k is just broken in. all the best!

You could see if the local dealer will charge just labor for installing a part. (Maybe $350 to $600??)

And then bring your own part.

It will still cost you $1,000-$2,500, though.

You just recently bought this, and within two months of purchase it showed a bunch of warning lights, more'n likely hybrid battery related from the outset? From private seller, or dealership? If dealership, is it the same one quoting the replacement battery?

 

What other problems have you had with your Prius? These are generally very reliable cars, sorry to hear you've had a bad experience.

 

Don't take it to a scrap yard. Post it to craigslist if you're ready to be rid of the car - someone will happily buy it for $1000-1500 in most areas.

 

Your first post suggests this car is not worth anything cause of the problems it's causing, you just want to junk it. Now you are putting $3000 into it and think it's not that bad anymore?

Why not put the $3000 into another car?

 

Have you tried calling Toyota for a possible goodwill warranty? HV Battery Goodwill Warranty Listing - Toyota Prius USA | PriusChat If the car was originally purchased in CA, it should be 10 years/150K warranty for the hybrid battery. I know that you are outside of both but it is worth the try since you already had the dealership diagnose it. Some people have had luck by getting the entire hybrid battery cost covered under the goodwill warranty and some even had some assistance to put towards the total cost (ie: $500-$1500). I recommend trying this option first. It doesn't hurt to try. Good luck!

 

I'd say go for it, and consider the suggestions about goodwill from Toyota too, might get it knocked down even more. I'd almost consider driving the 30 miles to the other dealership, that first bunch sound pretty oily...

 

$3000 is a pretty good price, all things considered. You should be good at least another 10 years on that battery. Good luck!
