I just bought a 2007 and averaged 47 MPG on a full tank.

Wow. All these numbers are impressive. I use my car for work and sometimes let it idle while I'm working so I expect that my mileage would be slightly lower than some but I'm guessing my battery must be going bad or something similar. For the month of May I got 36.7, 35.9, 36.3, 38.9, 33.8 and 34.9. First fill up in June was 32.1. Pretty sure I'm not burning 10mpg by idling sometimes. I sure wish someone local had the battery refurb charger...

If you've got air conditioning on while you idle for longer amounts of time, that can be taking your fuel economy down.

Yes sir. I am using AC however my car has a history of this type of poor performance. I suspect the battery at this point.

As an experiment in the U.K., I've been running my A/C quite heavily in the afternoons during my commute home (in 27c of heat).

A/C is set to 17c, recirculate, upper vents only (no, not the windscreen defogger setting). Fan speed is on "2".

I started off with 62.8mpg (UK) before my experiment began; I had 61.8mpg (UK) after commuting 2 days at the above settings in the afternoon. There was some unusual traffic congestion involved too - the type that depletes your HV pack, causing your vehicle to start charging the HV pack while you briefly crawl along at 10mpg in the traffic congestion.
And yes, I did leave my A/C running throughout my afternoon commute, traffic congestion or not.

Another short journey from cold last night (6 miles) reduced that to 61.3mpg (no A/C used).

Yes, the A/C does have some effect on MPG, but not THAT much (with the manual configuration settings I described), IMHO.

When you started, you had 62.8 UK MPG over what distance when you started the experiment?

I've noticed that if I'm sitting in traffic for 30-40 minutes to go 2-3 miles with my air conditioner running, my average fuel economy during that time is below 10 MPG.

Filled up with a full tank, and after about 100 miles had 62.8 MPG (UK). Then started using the A/C with a vengeance and over the next 72 miles, it dropped from 62.8 MPG to 61.8 MPG.

Note: the A/C was in use for only 34 of those 72 miles. It was cool in the morning (12c to 14c), so didn't need the A/C. It was 27c and upwards in the afternoon, so after driving the first mile with all windows down, to purge the vehicle's cabin of all excess "green house" heat (didn't do the mpg any favours either, but I was only going 30mph), I then turn on "life support", as I merge with a major ring road at 50mph, close all windows, deploy front solar shielding, and cruise home in air conditioned comfort.

Total bliss - worth the MPG drop

    * I'll keep you posted on further MPG readings with A/C. Short journey again last night (to pick daughter from Train Station) and it's down to 61.2 - and yes, A/C was used; it was 23c at midnight...!!!

I have a 2005 that I bought new, have 268K on it (original HV battery) and am in the 46-51 mpg range. I had some MPG drop when the 12v battery was crapping out a few years ago, and super cold weather just kills MPG. SC weather is pretty nice, something funny is happening there...good luck finding the cause.

    VVT Oil Filter? Poor MPG'S?
    https://priuschat.com/index.php?threads/81138/

VVT Oil Filter? Poor MPG'S? Clean the vvt sensor and filter under it. Remove air box left side 1st Cylinder On front of engine Sensor with wire Side mounting book remove bolt twist and pull out Clean oil off and lube with light oil right below that there is a hex bolt Behind that is a filter that's attached to it made of wire clean with copper brush and carburetor cleaner reassemble had a 50% power boost Ticking when cold when away or pinging when cold no power ip hills 5min fix

And replace coil packs or move 1 to 3 ,3 to 1, 2 to 4 and 4 to 2. I did the swap on my son car improved as much as my car I replaced all 4 ebay 34.00 for 4 coil pack. There all the same part number one must be leak and that cylinder must not need a hot spark

Here is our latest data from actual fill-ups on our 2006 at 165,000 miles.
Our MPG is good but our miles-per-tank is stinky as we cannot get much gaso in the tank these days. The 57.9 reading is probably due to tank not filling up that day. The good tanks (50 MPG) are due to longer trips, whereas the the lower MPG is driving local (no commute anymore).

    Miles per Tank/MPG
    295 38.0
    337 47.9
    349 43.2
    327 46.3
    304 41.9
    311 45.2
    338 44.5
    309 50.9
    298 45.4
    280 42.6
    309 48.6
    363 46.9
    331 49.6
    321 50.8
    418 49.8
    250 57.9
    328 42.4

Yup. Length of trips makes a big difference! My wife's '07 was showing 49.8 on the present tank with 249 miles on the tank so far. She does NO hypermiling, but she is a frugal driver. This is with a battery containing a full set of cells from a 2015 Prius. It's a slight improvement over the old battery, I think.

Thank you yes I know I'm well surprised so not too sure how many miles it will do more but my old punto did £40 for 300 miles so it's not bad going

If my arithmetic is right, that's 50.6 US gallons per mile. I think I did that once on a long highway trip on my '05. But it included lots of 45-50 mph sections.

On my 204,000 mile prius last fill up I averaged 42mpg. Not incredible but not terrible considering miles.
