…suction pads, although partly by its good reputation, for which I can strongly vouch! I had a couple of the suckers break, and a call to the manufacturer soon remedied that when they sent me (at no charge) some new suckers, and the only problem with the aft screen is that I (being a little short-arsed Brit) have to stretch to secure the screen in place! (…a small price to pay for a very effective shield) so any of you lanky bean-poles should have no problems whatever!)

 

I already have a 2013 on the way from Carmax. 34k miles

Already ordered Weathertech mats and tint scheduled for next Sat.

It doesn't have the wheel covers but the rims look awesome. I need to research mpg comparing with/without covers, but prefer w/o

 

Very nice pictures and nice colour! I looked at the list, and saw "SmartKey", but didn't see the magic buttons on the exterior, (front door-handles and one on the tailgate) What am I missing here?

Nah, wheel-covers? One of the first mods I made to the ChuggyPig was to remove the ugly OEM covers …my Gen II is the touring version and so has 16" alloy OEM wheels, which (IMNSHO) like many other things, look far nicer nekkid! (See pics in my albums for before/after pics)

Depending on when in August, it will be at least 6 weeks since the last meetup, so we'll be ready for the next one.

Well, the final charging is well underway. It looks like with the additional 4 hours after the numbers quit going up it will be finished between 8 and 9 tonight. The first startup and 20 mile test drive will come tomorrow morning.

 

Done! What I thought would end last night by 9 didn't end until 8 am this morning but that's a good thing. The last few volts were unexpected and took a long time to load.

Charge 1 + balance at 238 volts - 24 hours
Discharge to 134 volts - 5 hours
Charge 2 to 236 volts - 17.5 hours
Discharge to 84 volts - 6 hours
Charge 3 to 237 volts - 19.5 hours
Discharge to 17 volts - 5 hours
Final charge to 240 (!) volts - 31.5 hours
Total elapsed time - 108.5 hours (a little over 4.5 days)


The final charge numbers and times were copying readings at the same times of the previous 2 days. After I had the same readings of 237 at both 4:30 and 6:30 pm I figured I was pretty well done and would unplug after leaving it on some additional hours according to the directions. At 9:30 the reading had gone to 238. Okay, give it another 4 hours. I went to check at 12:30 and it was up to 239. Set the alarm clock for 3:30 am. Head out to the garage and it's wavering between 239 and 240. Half an hour later it was a solid 240. So, after another 4 hours I just turned it off at 8:00 am. I was very pleasantly surprised to see it at 240 but it sure made for a long night. That deepest discharge to 17v obviously made a difference.

First test drive will come in a few more hours......

 

I actually feel when you go down to 17v, a 30 hour final charge may be necessary to get all cells to 100% SOC.

You can also bring down the charge a bit when you first start your car, leave the car in Neutral so it won't continue charging the battery. I would say leave it in neutral with the AC on for about 3 to 5 minutes and it'll bring the charge down.

I don't like to have the car charging the battery at high amps when the battery is at 100% SOC.

I'm wondering if all the high rate of failures we see on the "rebuilt" battery suppliers are because they are not doing anything more than module swaps?

If it takes you 4.5 days to do this (with an automatic discharger), the turnaround might be too slow for their business. Maybe these business are rebuilding 1 every so often and then module swapping the ones they need to push out on a rush job. I can't see why there are that high rates of failures.....

 

Having a brain fart and driving too soon will teach you that lesson in an unforgettable way!!

 

What happens?

 

In my case, it was:

• p3000 = hybrid battery malfunction
• p0a80 = high voltage difference between blocks
• p3021 = battery block 11 weak
• c1259 = hybrid system regeneration malfunction
• c1310 = HV ECU has problem with traction control

The wife's '07 now has a battery with all the cells from a 2015 rather than replacing blocks or cells piecemeal. It was pricey, but way less than a new battery.

I was in a rush and forgot to let it cool and settle. Took it for a test drive in our typical FL weather and pretty soon had a light show on the dash.

It should be along time with this battery before I need to use the charger again, but you can bet I'll follow JC's suggestion to bleed it back down in neutral with the air conditioner before I drive it.
