Turn off reverse beep???

THe button sequence for the diagnostic screen no longer works, but that's not how you turn off the reverse beep. Do a search, andyou'll find it. It's also a sticky at the top of one forum.

 

Actually, the diagnostic screen still works. That's the one that you get to using the "display" button. It's the other screen, the one that has the button that bypasses the NAV speed disable function that seems to be missing. (I'm not convinced that it's really gone... I'll bet they changed the access.)

Many thanks to those who posted about how to disable the reverse beep. The prius is now quiet when in reverse and those around me thank you too.

The USER-GUIDE is a collection of a bunch of Prius stuff, including the beep instructions.

I just dug this up and answered my question. It is possible to turn that beep off. Here's How:

Fisrt turn the car on. cycle once through so that the "ODO" By pressing the ODO/Trip Function.

Now, turn off the car.

Now, turn it back on

..WIthin 6 seconds press and hold "ODO" for 10 seconds...

(This is kinda a grey area but i finally got it to work)

The miles numbers change to ----- readout and while holding "ODO" shift to Reverse ® and then Press Park (P). You should get a "B-on" message where you Miles are. press "odo" one more time to make it say "B-off" and your beeps are gone...

this whole thing is pretty tricky...

 

I had tried this before, with no luck. Tried again tonight, and my milage numbers never changed to ----, even after holding the ODO in for a LONG time. Decided to try it anyway, shifted to reverse, then hit park, while holding down the ODO button. Finally saw the "b on" in the milage area...released and hit the ODO button again and it changed to "b off". AT LAST!!! silence when backing up!! Don't know why the numbers never changed to ---, but it works even if they don't change!

 

Just when you think you are at an age when you know how to do a few things, you run into the "reverse beeper turn off proceedure". I finally got it to work but 15 minutes of trying and re-reading has got to be a record. I'll never get that 15 minutes of my life back.
