My 2017 Prius v just did a mandatory update. I think it might have been entune, but I'm not sure - I was driving and took my eyes off the road just long enough to hit download and install. Does anyone know what this update was for and why it was mandatory?
I'm getting the Entune update nag screen as well. I'm on the road traveling so I'll wait until I get home. FWIW I don't use Entune at all in the car or on my phone. I'm sorry now I installed it...
The Entune in our 2012 Prius v Five/ATP has received a number of over the air updates over the past five years including ones that renamed Bing Search to Destination Search and added a second screen that has Slacker Radio. Updates usually take less than five minutes after I press the virtual acceptance button on the in-dash screen.
I've done the USB update several times to our v Five, firmware now at 5.2.0, but I have never seen an onboard nag to do so.
I don't know about other model years, but for 2012, only the "premium" in-dash system that came with the Advanced Technology Package get the updates over the air in the same way that Lexus vehicles do.
Yes, the Entune update or a portion of it is first downloaded to the cell phone (from Google Play if the connected phone is Android). The existence of an update is sensed when the vehicle is started and the phone connects to the in-dash unit and senses a mismatch. If an Android phone user has his phone app updates set to automatic, he likely won't notice when an Entune update has been downloaded to his phone.
Windows phones are for weenies! And thanks again for providing the switch for the rear foglight - used recently when driving in a near zero visibility torrential rain storm on the Interstate.
Yes. It uses your phone's data connection so if you have a smallish mobile data plan, don't start the update until you're on wi-fi. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
There are updates to both the Entune ap for the phone and Entune software on the head unit. When I run Entune on my phone then run it on the head unit, it will check for updates for the head unit. Google Play updates are separate.
I never run Entune on my iPhone and it still asked me if I wanted to update the head unit so I don't believe they are related... I did have an update to the iPhone Entune app back in February from the Apple App Store but I have not run the actual app since last fall or later...
I noticed you joined in 2016. I'm guessing yours is a 2016. Entune on the car will not work on my '12 unless I open the app on a phone first, and it is connected via Bluetooth. I have a feeling some significant changes were made for 2016, so I am not surprised you are reporting this. It is most likely different for mine....
