I took a real short trip to pick up my son at the pool. When I turned the car back on, I got nothing on the MFD. Everything else was normal. I was beginning to think that it was the heat or something when this came up. Any ideas? [attachmentid=3963]
'please consult to a dealer' gotta love "engrish" but seriously, i'll see if DH has heard of that... more to come, hopefully...
No buttons work. The sceen just stays with that message. I've started the car numerous times, hoping it would reset. No good. There was a lightning storm passing by at the time that was pretty intense but I know I'm just grasping at straws.
Don't know. I searched for the phrase "cannot be read" in the TIS PDF documentation I have and didn't find anything.

hmm, okay, DH just spent a lot of time expressing what boils down to "well that's strange" in various ways. we flipped through the nav systems book to see if that contained any clues, and came up empty handed. something to try, though: eject the NAV disc, check it out and make sure it looks OK, and put it back in. see if that does anything. meanwhile, he'll do some more digging at work tomorrow.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(galaxee @ Jun 28 2006, 09:10 PM) </div> Thanks everyone for all your assistance! I'll try the DVD nav disk tomorrow. If it's any help, there's no Toyota splash screen either. Even without NAV I'd get that initial logo wouldn't I? I'm just hoping that driving it won't mess anything up more. I intend to stop by a dealer on my way to work in the morning. I'll probably just end up with an appointment though. I'll keep you updated as best as possible. [Edit June 29 2006, 09:30 AM' : Appointment is setup for tomorrow (Friday June 30, 06.) Prius tech said he's gonna call support in California for more info/help.]
Hey there, when we test drove the Prius with sat nav, we also got this message. The dealer said it was because there was no sat nav DVD in the drive. All of the buttons worked fine though (could get engine monitor up etc), when we pushed the map/voice button, that error message appeared.
Update: The technician said that this has never happened before and they don't know why. The support team in California said to replace the screen. One of the techs said "There may have been a plug loose on the back." I think it happened when I powered up the car to raise the windows. I was in a hurry to get 'em up 'cause of a sudden thunderstorm that came out of nowhere which is an almost daily event here in the summer. I punched the Start button a couple of times in rapid succession, got the windows up and was shutting down at the same time a bolt of lighting cracked about 150 yards away. I did the sequence so fast that the car was shuting off before fully "booting up" so that could have something to do with it too. I hate it when you don't know why, and just have to throw parts at it. I doubt it will happen again, but then you never know. They said two business days to get the screen. Not bad. But because of the holiday, it will probably be Thursday before it comes in. It's kind of strange driving without the feedback that the MFD gives. I can at least get the AC on and off via the steering wheel, but wonder where the temp is set and what radio station is currently selected. All in all a very good experience at this dealer (Oak Ridge Toyota). 07/14/06 Update: I don't know why they said two days to get the screen. I can only assume that the service writer was basing this on the usual time for regular parts that they order. Not MFDs. Well, exactly two weeks later, the screen was replaced. I've since learned (thanks Galaxee) that the process does take at the very least 1.5 weeks for the dealership to get a replacement.
