A/C Compressor Problem

    I replaced the blower in June because the AC would randomly cut out and turn on. Since then, the AC has been warm. I can't remember the last time they changed the refrigerant. They said they did change the refrigerant this time. I thought about selling it, but it still runs great except for the A/C. I'm also uncertain about the original hybrid battery.

    Quite the disassemble!

    Any chance if prior service used the wrong refrigerant or oil (there is a special oil for the Prius AC compressor) it could have led to this damage?

    I just recalled, with an Accord, more-n-likely 1984, we got a complete AC install, for around $1500 (Can). That would have been around 1985 I guess. It took them 2~4 hours, can't recall exactly.

    Canadian AC is smaller and easier to install :cool:
    . . . probably fits in the glovebox :LOL:

    Well, I got the car back and the A/C works better than ever! And it should for that price...

    Did they hold the line at the original number, $2400. Or add "shop supplies"?

    $1900 plus $500 for the compressor I bought from eBay. So $2400

    That gutted dash photo literally made me say, "mother of god" out loud. My AC stopped working around September so I am waiting until April-ish to have it diagnosed. I am glad to hear yours is back together and running well. Thanks for the pics.

    LOL, I was thinking of waiting till April, but I just thought, "why shouldn't I get it fixed now?"

    The local dealer wanted to charge me about $550 to replace an airbag module that I bought from a junkyard with the one that was in the car.

    That to me was ridiculous.

    I went to a local shop instead and got it put in for $180. That's 1/3 of what the dealer wanted to charge.

    Never go to a dealer for repairs, period. They're only good for diagnostics, but to do the actual work, always pick a local shop who knows how to work on hybrids.

    I always go to the independent shop, but I drove to 5 different shops around me and none of them would work on my car because they were afraid of getting fried to death by the battery. That's when I decided to take it to the dealer. At least they know what to do most of the time, more often than local shops when it comes to hybrids.
