This subject has been going on for a couple years. It appears the Prius' shipped to the US and Canada didn't get the backup lines programmed into computer. I had a 2014 rental in Europe that did, but my 2014 here in the US does not. Think we're out of luck.
I reciently found a article that told you to put it in the acc mode 5 times in a row , then put the car in rev. Well you can't put it in rev in acc. So the lines are in the radios software? Is that obtainable ?
welcome! unfortunately, we don' know if they are in there, and if they are, no one has been able to retrieve them. if you really want them, you would have to upgrade the h/u.
I've just adapted. Perhaps that is the wrong word as I never had a backup camera before this car. When backing into a spot, I've found that if I line up the painted line on the asphalt with the bottom right corner of the display, I'll be fairly centered in the spot.
Thanks for the idea, I have a white car and was toying with putting 1/4 inch wide strips of white reflective tape on the bumper as a guide .
I'm reviving a slightly old thread here because I missed it earlier and I don't think we really need yet another thread on the topic. The only time the lack of backup camera lines bothers me is backing into my garage, which I just started doing because that way there's no danger of further damaging the spoiler on the garage door. The lack of lines is an unconscionable oversight since it seems to be just a matter of programming it like the European models. Anyway, I laid down white duct tape on my garage floor which helps a lot, but isn't a full fix. It's very hard with this car, when backing up, to know which way the car is pointing because of the sloping window sills, as you can see in the picture. And it's hard to judge left and right distances from the sides of the garage door opening since one outside mirror is convex and the other is flat. Short of building an aiming device like what NASA used in docking Command Modules with Lunar Modules, I'm at a loss for a real fix. Except ... This looks interesting, other than I don't want to spend $100 fixing Toyota's cheapness.
Good cheap idea and fix. Todd's logos are large and in charge. Everyone knows where got your Prius when driving around.
A shameless little plug for my friend, Todd. Last time, I took the letters off after a few months. So did the wife. This time, I'm leaving them till they get ratty looking.
