I have just received the confirmation from a dealership, that Toyota is keeping the $2500 cash rebate offer to continue in the month of June 2017.

because they aren't selling in those area's, but toyota overcommitted to them, because a sale in any carb state counts as a sale in cali for toyota, which allows them to sell more land barges.

I'm in upstate NY and the only reason they're not selling more here is that the dealers barely have one at a time. A couple of dealers I contacted a month ago had none, and just in the last week emailed me they have one coming in. One. Already bought mine...

June now. And again, Illinois' got nothing. No stock, no rebates. Nada. My Prime will be arriving in a few weeks and my only hope is that I can delay to July -- pick it up and then, and maybe, maybe there will be a July rebate. My gut feeling is that I'll be paying the full price for the car, just like I did in 2009.

I work for Toyota and the reason they don't sell as much in certain regions is due to 2 major factors. Weather and AWD. Snowy cities tend to ask dealers for AWD vehicles, therefore Rav4's and Highlanders and way way more popular than a prius prime. Also, in colder weather cities, the EV range is greatly affected compared to an all sunny state like CA.

except that there are a ton of them here in the northeast, and they are practically giving them away.

That don't make no sense....So (above said), Toyota decides to load up most of their Prime to these regions (like NE/Boston/NJ) and give them tons of incentives ($2500 off) and leave nothing for "none snowing/high Prius Prime demanding regions like Texas)? Texas currently have a total of 10 Prius Prime inventory state wide and zero incentive/cash back.

So let's recap...send all the cars to region that doesn't want them...sell them cheap there and make less money. I like to work for Toyota as a high level exec...because it doesn't matter how stupid decision I make it's all good.. LOL...

Not for many consumers, but it does make sense for Toyota and it is the scenario that allows them to maximize profits within the regulations to which they must abide.

Northeast CARB states have their own individual mandates. It's not enough to sell loads of them in California. Prime sells without too much difficulty there, but needs a higher incentive to move them in the Northeast to make their numbers in the individual states there.

For example, from New York's Department of Environmental Conservation:

The ZEV regulation requires large and intermediate volume manufacturers (LVM and IVM) to deliver and place in service within New York State a certain percentage of ZEVs (battery electric and fuel cell vehicles), plug-in hybrids, hybrids, and clean gasoline vehicles with near-zero tailpipe emissions...

2015 Zero Emission Vehicle Credits - NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation

Yes, that leaves most states in between high and dry until production can ramp up more. The Prime was still inventory constrained as of last month, but that should end soon.

The dealer by me still has $2500 off on the Primes and $1500 off the hatchbacks.

The Prime is separate from the Prius Liftback. The regional distributors determine the incentives and one of them is privately owned.

How do you open the "trunk" of the Prime? Does the whole back glass and all comes up? What is hatchback then?

Ask Toyota or their marketing team @Prius Team . They call the Gen 4 Prius a Liftback or Hatchback but they say the Prime is different. Much like they insist a Hybrid Prius is not a Car., according to the menu on their website.

Liftback also differentiates between the Prius and the Prius v.
