Is it true moonstone interior looks great at first but you start feeling it is too shiny after a month or so, especially under direct sunshine? I am thinking about picking moonstone and want to know how you feel after more than a few weeks of ownership.
I too was hesitant as I had heard others say the moonstone was highly reflective. I would suggest taking a test drive with the moonstone interior on a bright day and see how it suits your personal expectations. Some of the dash and steering wheel trim is actually shinier than the seats, which are a more flat white. I have had mine for 4 months and the last two have been very sunny. I still see little reflection from the moonstone. If you want more of my thoughts on the differences between the PiP and the Prime they are here: My personal comparison of 2014 PiP to 2017 Prime
I've had mine for 2+ months, I'm in SoCal, so pretty much sunny almost every day, I have no issues with the moonstone, does not feel "shiny" to me at all, but, everyone is different so would suggest to drive one if you have that option
I'm assuming you're asking about the softex moonstone interior? I have a Prime Plus that has the cloth moonstone interior and the panels on the dash and doors are brighter than the seats which are two-tone black and the "moonstone" on the cloth is more of a grey. On bright sunny days with the Plus the light reflected off the brighter parts of the interior is always less than that coming from outside and it hasn't gotten any shinier/brighter (or duller besides a little dust) in the 6 months I've had the car. How about dirt? I chose the dark interior because it just seemed all those light finishes, especially the dash, would show every bit of dirt. How does it hold up that way?
The dark interior shows dust and pollen very well, especially on the shiny surfaces. I have a swiffer in the car at all times.
These are photos of my interior after 4 months. I use this primarily as a commuter, but on the weekends my family including two teens are normally passengers. I have not done any cleaning to the vehicle. I drive it 5 days a week to/from work and sometimes carry others from work out to eat offsite. On the weekends I probably make 6-8 trips with myself and various mixes of other family members. I only have one rule for myself and my family regarding riding in the car; I do not allow eating while in the car, though I do allow drinks and all else. The first photo shows the drivers side door interior which seems to be as clean as when I took possession of the car in late January. The second photo shows the dash which is also as clean as when I took possession, but demonstrates that the darker surfaces actually show dust more readily than the moonstone surfaces. If I look very closely I can see that the moonstone surfaces have the same amount of dust, it is just not visibly apparent like the darker surfaces. As you can see in the third photo the only noticeable thing about the cars interior is that my bottom which normally has black jeans on it has transferred some of that black to the moonstone faux leather drivers seat. I plan to clean it this summer with some cleaning product. I did not take any photos of the rear interior because they are still pristine, even though that is where my teens ride. They normally are good at putting their hand prints all over the glass windows, but that is easy enough to clean.
Thanks, Cave Arnold, for sharing the photos. And, since you are also in the Northeast, you have dealt with the crazy spring of cold, warm, wet and dry. Happy for you that the interior has held up so well.
The first Prime that was available to me had the moonstone interior. I took a test drive in it on a sunny day and the reflection from the white under the windshield caused me to immediately don my sun glasses. I was not a fan of the moonstone interior to begin with but this solidified my decision to reject that particular Prime and continue to wait for another. Luckily another came along within a week.
I have Moonstone fabric (Plus trim) and love it. It might be a bit shiny, but not that bad, and I personally dislike all-black (too hot, and I personally just don't like all-black) so I'm totally happy with Moonstone. Made sure the one I bought had the Moonstone. But of course everyone's likes are different.
My 2010 Prius has moonstone, and I've never thought of it as "too shiny." It can show dirt, but it's better than I would have expected. I picked Moonstone then, and my new prime will have it too. (cooler in the summer than black)
I got the moonstone and love it. Moonstone is a very accurate description of it as it's almost grey white like the moon. Not paper white so much. The reflection from the white is not too bad compared to the screen in the center dash. I would be more concerned about screen reflection. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I know... right? It's all in the eye of the beholder. Personally, I would simply LOVE it if FABRIC were also an "option" (available) with the Premium. I think the "Harvest Beige" fabric interior (currently "out of inventory"?!?) would look fantastic with either the Blizzard Pearl, Blue Magnetism, or Titanium Glow. But maybe that's just me....
I have the Moonstone SofTex and it is only shiny in certain places in the car. I live in SoCal so it's usually very sunny. I got the Moonstone because the all-black seats make it look like a rental car and the moonstone brightens the interior. As for the shine, the dashboard is the only occasional glare I get from the windshield or windows. The car has to be perfectly positioned in the sun to glare onto the left driver's window. The glare isn't bright, but is gives a translucent appearance to see through the window. It really isn't that big of a deal and I'm glad I bought it. It also stays clean and looks like new!
