I have to say A LOT of Bob Dylan, Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, and Neil Young. They are my favorites and couldn't be without them.

    Let's see...

The Beatles, Steve Miller, Pink Floyd (Wish You Were Here is fantastic driving music), and early Rolling Stones.

But nothing beats drivin' and dancin' with The Grateful Dead, so a special thanks to the people who built the Prius with so much room!

Certainly depends on the mood, right? I love listening to books on CD...

However, I can always depend on Led Zeppelin for the singing-at-the-top-of-my-lungs moments, "Ten Years Gone" being my favorite.

"Nessun Dorma" as sung by Pavarotti is my favorite song ever, and is great when you want to be blasted by something amazing--windows down or up. Of course, I refuse to sing to it because it makes me feel stupid...you don't f with Luciano!

And, just when it's getting warm in the Spring, and you can roll your windows down for the first time in a long time, ANYTHING feels and sounds good...from Britney Spears to Alabama to America to Tupac to Springsteen to Duran Duran.

I will say that I don't care for Techno much...or speed metal...beyond that, I'm all ears.

Depends on my mood, but some sort of rock most of the time. Most recent CD's include Linkin Park, U2 (actually managed to get tickets to them for my wife's birthday last year, it was AWESOME!), Lynyrd Skynyrd, and right now I've got The Matrix soundtrack playing at work. I usually prefer FM radio when they're not heavy on commercials for the traffic reports. Since there aren't a lot of alternate routes here, I like to know as much in advance as possible for any traffic problems so I can try to avoid them.

Living in Los Angeles (although I'm surprised they reach San Diego), my second option is Jack FM. Their motto is "We play what we want." They replaced Arrow FM which used to play classic rock. Now they play mostly rock, along with any other genres - as long as they want to play it. The good thing about the station is that they don't have blabbermouths. All music, then commercials, then music again. You can listen to their station online.

My first option is my music player, which happens to be in iPod. Galaxee, get yourself a player (not neccessarily an iPod). Burn your "must-haves" onto a CD and leave them in the player for those days you forget your player. I probably used my changer a total of 5 hours since I got the car last December.

    What's on the iPod:
Podcasts - TWiT, Security Now, DL.tv Audio Version, Cranky Geeks, The Onion Radio News.
Music - Queen, U2, Beatles, dance tracks from my DDR Sountrack, KT Tunstall, Black Eyed Peas, The Calling, Rob Thomas. Not much Jazz yet, although I have Alphonse Mouzon in my list - and my second FM station is The Wave (Jazz).

    Definitley The Postal Service.

Their music is calming and upbeat, making driving the Prius more relaxing.

I second the Crystal Method and Chemical Brothers. I enjoy driving to Crystal Method's "Vegas" the most!

Since I have a long commute, I've become quite fond of audio books. The tend to keep me calm, especially in heavy traffic.

If I choose to listen to music, it's usually either classic rock (Led Zeppelin, The Who, Stones, etc) or 80's hard/hair rock (Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Whitesnake, etc).

Of course, as far as I'm concerned, Radar Love by Golden Earring is the best driving song ever.

Do you mind sharing these? Or at least tell me where to get them? I am also looking for some eurobeat stuff like they have in Initial D.

    Thanks.

Initial-D's stuff is mostly by the group "move". You can get music cds of such from here: http://www.toycup.com/indsoun.html for example. I personally have the 1998-2004 (2 cd version) Best Song Selection.

Like others here, I have XM. My favorite channels are Fine Tuning (eclectic - anywhere from Beethoven to Beatles), Real Jazz (classic jazz), Beyond Jazz (upbeat, modern, fusion), Watercolors (smooth jazz), Deep Tracks (classic album rock), and Bluesville (self-explanatory). My mood and the nature of my trip often dictate which I'm listening to. However, I listen more to Bluesville than the others for another reason: I'm learning to play blues harmonica. So when I can do so safely, I play along while I'm in the car.

Any other would-be (or legit) blues harp-playing Prius owners out there?

    Jim

Interested in Blues Harp (literally)? Check out this website Deborah Henson-Conant. I have seen her in performance numerous times and she is a phenominal stage presence, and her perfomance defies description. If she ever performs in your area, do you self a favor and go!

I listen to tons of music, but the majority of the times I lean towards the heavy/extreme stuff. A few things on my iPOD:

    Progressive/Technical:
    Dream Theater
    Opeth
    Symphony X
    Necrophagist
    Nightwish
    Tool
    Meshuggah

    Older metal:
    Metallica (pre-Black album)
    Megadeth
    Slayer
    Anthrax
    Iron Maiden
    Pantera

    Modern Metal:
    Killswitch Engage
    Unearth
    Lamb of God

    Semi-commercial:
    System of a Down
    Korn
    Evanescence
    Hurt
    NIN
    Linkin Park
    Sevendust

I also dig alot of movie and game soundtracks.

When I was 16 I was actually listening to Jazz all the time for some reason. Don't know why.

I have all of those in my Heavy Metal playlist on my iPod. The CD that's in is Dragonforce. Listen to some of their stuff, it's pretty rockin'.
