uh, this is disheartening to hear. it is kind of hard to distinguish the sound from the engine running normally. i don't think anyone else has reported it yet. how often does it happen, and what is outside temp?
Welcome! I've never heard that knocking on cold start. Could it be that there is something for the Taiwan market that might be causing this? Can you start another PHV (at the dealer, or someone you know) to see if it does the same thing? If not, something may be wrong. What has the dealer said when you played the noise for them? Can I ask... does the Taiwanese PHV have two charger ports (like Japanese model) or just one charger port (like US model)? Also, your picture of charging at a public charger at night... Is that in Taipei? Kaohsiung? I'm curious how common public chargers are in Taiwan now..

And I love those pictures of all the Blue PHV cars. I can just imagine watching them all drive past, one after the other! Sorry I can't help with your problem. To me it sounds like a power relay closing with an arc. That explains the sharp 'ket-pop.' I would try to find out if the sound is coming from the traction battery where there are power relays. The relays should close before the car puts a load on it. Bob Wilson
Welcome! I am fairly new here to but I only have a Hybrid Prius. I believe some Prius will knock on startup it previously the engine was turned off before completing its warmup cycle. Other here are much more knowledgeable though. Enjoy your new car and fuel savings.
My 2010 Prius does that sometimes. It's an ugly sound, but usually just revving the engine a bit gets it to stop, or turning it off and then on again. Maybe the Prime is vulnerable to the same thing. No clue what it really is other than it sound like the timing a VERY off.
