Hi chatters, I left the Prius parked in garage for approx 80 days. I had a trickle charger keeping the 12v battery charged. When I went to start it, I had noticed that one of the tires was flat. So I backed it out of garage. When I did I saw a Hybrid Malfunction waring and the symbol for check engine was on. Is the car driveable to the dealer, approx 1 mile from me? Or will driving at varying speeds reset the system? Brian
Once the tire is inflated, you should be able to drive it, it may charge and have no issues but the dealer can read the code it does have now. (The Prius does not make a good 'snowbird' car, it likes to be READY every week)
I would fill up the tires and drive it around and see what's going on. It might reset itself, who knows!
it probably set off a speed sensor with the flat tire. pump it up (you should have pumped it to the max sidewall before leaving) disconnect the 12v for a minute, reconnect, and see if the warning comes back.
Thanks for the help. As soon as I had the tire pumped up the hybrid warning cleared. Driving to my appointment the check engine light was on. When I got back in the car that light cleared.
That's why my wife and I take our Prius v south for the winter. We like to keep it as warm & comfy as possible...
I've stored my Prius for 3 months every winter with a 12 volt maintenance charger with no ill effects. Sounds like the flat tire was the problem that resulted in the warning lights. Not sure I'd want to leave it stored for longer than 3-4 months. Anyone have experience with long term storage?
