I have used the robopark for parallel parking on a couple of occasions. It works great but don't forget to use your brake. The first time I did it I took my foot off the brake and the reversing was very fast! My problem is that the car seems VERY picky with the back in mode. I have yet to have it tell me anything other than not available try again. I think it is looking for a very defined space between two other cars. Is that everyone else's experience?
I found it to be fairly choosy about parking places to accept the challenge on, but extremely so. As I recall, once I was pretty sure I was doing it correctly, it rejected 2 spaces and then took the third. iPhone ? Pro
Backing into a parking place is so trivially easy that I've never tried the assist despite backing in every day at work.
There's such a thing? I didn't know. My spot in my condo parking garage is right next to the wall - so I have to make a 90 degree turn along a concrete wall. I'd love to have assistance to gauge how clise my front bumper is to scrapping it.
Pull up perpendicular to the spot so you are looking down the center of the spot you want to park in, no more than 3-4 feet away from the cars, and turn on the turn signal in the direction of the spot before engaging the button. Works much better for me when I use the blinker. I'm pretty sure the automatic parking won't work if one side is against a wall, according to the Toyota manual and instructional videos. You could try it but I don't think it will work. Regardless, the car should beep at you if you get too close to the wall. Mine beeps when parking in the garage because I need to get very close to the wall in order for the other car to fit as well.
I tried the robo-back today in the parking garage. While it did get me between the lines, it was much closer on one side than the other. So I had to manually readjust it so I wouldn't hit the other car with my door.
There seems to be some issues with the IPA2 (S-IPA) - between curbing the rims in Parallel Parking Mode and one sided parking in Back-in Mode. I have IPA in my 2010 and it still works with or without the Pre-Support function (although I have to correct the Back-In Mode with two taps of the arrow on the sreen because my bumper was side-swiped so it's slightly out of alignment). With the 12 sensors supplementing the back up camera, should the car be better at parking than mine?
