What were you planning to put in it? Diesel?

 

Unleaded gasoline has been the standard for at least a few decades. That's just normal gasoline.

You might have issues if you put E85 (85% ethanol) or diesel in your car, but unleaded is normal

 

I think it is illegal to sell leaded gas in the US now. Like others have said, unless you put E85 or Diesel in there is no problem. Higher octane gas, like 89, 91, or 93 is not going to cause any problems except in your wallet. Not sure of any long term effect of the e85, but you would probably notice some issues right away if you put diesel in. The e85 has more ethanol and it can cause degredation of some seals and rubber components in the system over time if they aren't designed for it. Using it once probably won't cause any issues though. Just make sure you don't use it again.

I'm guessing the new pumps just got you reading the pump, and you just hadn't noticed before. Yeah, all the gas is unleaded now, and since the early 90's. Regular unleaded is what the Owner's Manual recommends. The specifications sort of vary, country by country, but "regular unleaded" is the way to go.

 

Some people pay more to use ethanol-free gasoline but that is not needed for this car.

 

Re: picture. I've never seen pumps like that. Might be easy to make a mistake. The Prius is a great car because it seems to run fine on any type of fuel. (Don't use diesel, of course). I just buy the lowest-priced, good quality gas I come across.

As long as it was not diesel. Don't drive it if it was and get it pumped out of the tank. Anything else you are fine.

 

It appears that leaded was banned from the on-road market as of January 1, 1996.

Every car of model year 1975 or later requires unleaded. Though in the back of my mind, I thought some '74s and '73s did too.

 

the OP is possibly confused about ethanol free, 85% ethanol, etc. Or maybe the octane number and since higher octane isn't likely to hurt, not a big thing except you paid more for something that generally doesn't help you in a Prius.

Almost all pumps are ethanol of some amount.

 

It says Unleaded 15. E15 maybe instead of E10? (15% Ethanol instead of 10%) In my opinion, one tank should not hurt. The FlexFuel one could cause issues, though.

 

Ah, okay. I get that. That's E15 (15% ethanol), and it's cheaper because ethanol is less expensive than gasoline. When it first came out, there were some studies that showed a risk of seal degradation with long term use, but one tank isn't going to cause any problems.

 

Look at any wording printed on your gas filler cap. On my 2014 Gen 3, the wording says "up to E15 is okay"

 

Most places 15% ethanol is all you can get. You are fine.

By law, everything in that picture is Unleaded.

I'll agree with the folks who suggest that the E15 is unlikely to be a problem for a single tank. How much did you actually put in? Depending on how much E10 was in the tank to dilute it, your mix is likely in the E12-E13 range. Don't make this a habit, especially on consecutive tanks. If you are nervous, burn off a few gallons then go find some E0, or 'pure gas', to top it off and dilute it down to E10.

While some regions are pushing it, I have never noticed any E15 in my region. We have only E10.

My 2012's gas filler cap still forbids E15. Up to E10 only.

 

Actually Ethanol is more expensive than fossil fuel unleaded gasoline. It is cheaper at the pump because it is so heavily subsidized by your tax dollars. It is much less efficient and costs more to produce. More fake science and big government making you pay.

 

Yep, ethanol for auto fuel should die, straight unleaded is better.
