Harbor Freight 24" Jack in Action

    Agreed. We have moved twice since having the jack and they lost the handle extension in the last move:(. Now I use a house fan extension rod to help with leverage.

    The jack I bought won't do any better than what you already have. I bought mine to replace a really small jack I'd bought from Sears ages ago.

    Good to hear :). I still have a jack I inherited long ago that was my grandfathers that now just collects dust under the bench. Hard to part with it, probably similar to your Sears jack, as he bought most things from Sears.

    Now I just have to keep saving my pennies up for the portable lift I have been eyeing;).

    Thanks for the inspiration, @Rebound. I finally broke down and did something about that incredibly inadequate jack I've been struggling with. Happy birthday to me, two days late. :):):) Tomorrow ... oil and filter AND transaxle oil. Now the jackstands can go under the car without any more finagling. (y)

    You'll be very happy with it. The more expensive jacks have a thick piece of rubber on top of the steel cup which touches the vehicle. You might try to fashion one at some point.

    Hockey pucks work too. I use one of those plus a square of 2x4, atop the standard steel cradle on mine, for the rear jacking point, which is up quite a bit higher. On the front I take off the steel cradle and swap in one of these:

    The pin is the right size, but due to weld around the base I had to make a shim piece out of meddite.

    We have a Bay Area meet up June 24th and you could get first hand experience with the Daytona Jack if you are down for that(y).

    With the big floor jack, you always lift from the center, which makes it easy to slide both jack stands in at once.

    I've been meaning to paint the front and rear jackpoints bright yellow to make them easier to find.

    My OCD self is irritated with the rear jacking point being off center, which means the car isn't lifted straight up. You have to place a jackstand under the lower side, lower the car, place a jackstand under the high side, and lower again.

    You just jack the car and put jackstands on both sides, then slowly lower the car. True, the right lands first, but the jack lifts the back VERY high, so it's no problem.

    Yes, but because the high side is very high, it requires some fine tuning to get it to land on the jackstand in the right spot. Very difficult to get it right by eyeballing it the first time.

    I usually take my best stab at positioning both rear safety stands, lower till they're both touching, check position, then raise slightly and shift as needed.

    I don't use the scissor jack positions btw. Use reinforced plate "humps" just inboard of those positions, adjacent to the oval shaped plugs.

    Sim story in the front: place stands at the front end of the body rails running longitudinally.

    Also, my slab is a little off/planar, sometimes I need to shim under the rear/left safety stand, when raising the whole car, to get them all in solid bearing.
