When I use the self parking feature on my Prius Prime, it often parks the car so the wheels are touching the curb. This has already scratched the wheels. Any solutions?
in my experience, parking assist relies on the cars around you to measure how to park. so if those cars are touching the curb it's likely that prius will as well. I'd pay attention to how close the other cars next to your spot are to the curb before deciding to park. not really a fix but something to keep in mind.
You are a brave man Frankcos. I wanted to use the feature but with the rear-view camera, figure that I can do just fine myself without AI.
Practice makes perfect. I used to be really good when I did it often. Haven't had to at all in over 20 years, then the one time I needed to, it was a bit difficult being out of practice.
this thread made me realize that I've already got a decent scratch on my wheel cover as well oh well it was bound to happen eventually I suppose
Not going to try to park at certain places in SF. Glad to have automatic parking on board. So far so good. The car parks itself very very close to the curb but so far nothing bad has happened.
My Prius Four Touring scratched its own rim yesterday while self parking. Neither the car in front nor behind my parking space were touching the curb. The car seldom gets self parking right. It's either way too far away or way too close. The system needs a lot of refining. Self parking without curb detection is a huge oversight. I would trade the poorly-executed autonomous parking feature for a reverse-tilt side-view mirror and a dynamic grid in the back-up camera screen (think current BMW) in a heartbeat. If I had a better view of the curb while parking, I would be much happier with my Prius. Speaking of parking, has anybody else noticed that the bottom of the passenger front door is dying to scrape the curb every time a passenger tries to enter or exit the car while parked next to a curb?? This is driving me crazy!!
This seems to be a problem with the S-IPA (or IPA2). The IPA on my Gen 3 parks at a decent distance from the curb (maybe a touch too far for some if the street is narrow but on a normal North American width street, it's fine).
Can you expand those acronyms, please, for those not in-the-know. I did check here: PriusChat Glossary | PriusChat (I know, they just keep on comin')
Looks like I 'll need to update. "S" stands for Simple since IPA will do all of the parking manoeuvres for you. Previously, you had to position the car for the reverse manoeuvre - that's all IPA did. Now, it'll pull forward, reverse in and will adjust the car (forward/back) as necessary. It'll also allow you to exit the parallel parking spot if it's tight. IPA = Intelligent Parking Assist. Also known as Advanced Parking Guidance System (APGS)
Thanks, makes perfect sense now. First itteration of parking assist worked ok, but with this new version, it's more complete in it's operation, but there may still be bugs.
Yes. With the previous iteration, you could see where the car will end up on the navigation screen as the box will be outlined in green. (If it's red, IPA will not activate). For parallel parking, you'd want the pole on the screen to line up with the corner of the vehicle beside you. For stall/back-in parking, you will angle the car, then shift into reverse. The box should be within the parking space. Adjust as needed. (I need to make two minor adjustments because my rear bumper was hit and therefore is slightly out of alignment.) Here's the Gen 4 version Starts at 2:08 (before that, it's intro stuff)
My Prime Advanced is about 6 days old and the wife is talking on the phone while getting out of the car and drives the passenger side door into the dirt while not noticing. I was... upset
It appears that self parking not quite up to speed on other car makes too. Three of the 4 do OK. One is pretty much a failure. Self-Parking cars Tesla v Audi v Ford v BMW - test and comparison - are they any good?
