    This is dedicated to the toyota engineers that like to things the hard way. I hope this helps someone in the future. No front bumper or radiator support removed. I put this motor in by myself the m10x1.25x4 bolts I bought for the engine stand to support the motor, were then used to help guide the input shaft for engine to tranny. I'm not a cook in real life.     These are rings offered by itm aftermarket with measurements for the prius pistons from rockauto. I am trying something different and will report later with my findings.

    I really appreciate all of this. If changing the oil ring on the piston helps eleviate high mileage oil burning, it will be the missing answer we all have been searching for. I even wonder if Toyota changed the rings after 2012, thus the lack of later models having this issue.

    Anybody wondering what the interior looks like from 297k. Front seats were removed and everything was extracted, I think I removed 5 cups of coffee and sweat/grease from the upholstery.

    Ford, bmw manufacturers and parts stores are developing augmented reality app's for fixing cars. It will revolutionize the way people view cars. The other applications the technology can be used for this is unlimited. Point your phone/tablet at the car with camera, View the car in real time showing proper technique and tools to execute. Code pops up in app, camera will identify engine and show what to take apart and look for a proper fix. Imagine having a master mechanic overlooking what you do. Faceswap is just the start, Anyone can wrench!

    Does the torque damper need to come off the flywheel before you can unbolt the flywheel from the crank?

    If so, did you use any special tool to pilot the center of the damper disk when you put it all together?

    I suppose it could be less critical than in a conventional manual, since I don't see any pilot bearing pressed into the crank. So maybe a slight centering error won't completely stop you assembling engine to tranny the way it would where a pilot bearing is present.

    The torque/clutch/flexplate/damper/thing does need to come off, it has its own housing and there is no need for alignment. When a conventional clutch needs a clutch alignment tool. I was able to wiggle the flywheel while pushing the motor in. Cake!

    Did not have enough time to finish today. Everything but the egr cooler is in now, has 95% flow. Soaked it in purple power for two weeks and had hit it with a pressure washer. Soapy water in a spray bottle is showing a couple of the veins are still clogged. I need to put coolant and oil in tomorrow and put it in maintenance mode to bleed the system. Cleaned the fuel injectors today. A tire valve stem is drilled so the straw fits tight and 12vdc battery open's the noid to get carb cleaner to flow through. There is a nice spray pattern now. 3/8 hose is for oil catch system. Glad I'm here on priuschat, found the thread about updated spark plugs and gapped them 0.044

    I read a multiple product review, saying purple power worked the best for EGR cleaning. I wonder if the two weeks was necessary, or more a case of might as well, the engine's MIA anyway.

    Just a wealth of tips. All I can think at the end of it though, for engine rebuild: just hire you, lol.

    Rich Jensen, who has provided the injector testing and cleaning service for the Gen 1&2 injector survey experiment here on PriusChat, once suggested that for manual triggering of an injector (that is, without using the specialized equipment that provides the safe pulse lengths and duty cycles), a 9 volt battery is generally adequate to open the injector, and less likely to heat-damage the coil.

    I've definitely found that 9 V is adequate to click the ones that pass through my hands as part of the survey.

    Ford diesel egr cooler on left, Bulletproof diesel egr cooler on right side. It may not cool as well but it does clean a hell of a lot easier. My egr cooler was 100% clogged with 4mm build up from the exhaust side. I did not know 9vdc would work. I do toggle the 12vdc while spraying carb cleaner. I clean the injector @ both ends. Leaving power on too long will burn up the injector, it gets hot as hell.

    Cylinder number one with the bent piston, would that be the one nearest drivers side? I'm just wondering if the *$#@!! 100% clogged EGR (which feeds in on that side of the intake manifold) could be instrumental in the hydrolock that happened?
