IMG_0355.JPG IMG_0358.JPG IMG_0355.JPG My original filter is a different color. I really doubt it got that dirty since October. There are no part numbers on either filter.
The engine filter number matches what I ordered.

Bought some carbon filter to replace stock carbin AC filter. The replacement's cleat is not same direction as stock like OP said. There is a raised plastic piece inside the holder that prevents the replacement filter from coming in. This piece has no structural purpose other than just that. Toyota must have put it there to force user to buy their brand which cost 10x more.
Solution? Dremmel that's POS off. Now it'll fit oem filter or aftermarket.

Btw stock filter is not carbon so if it looks black it's dirty. Lol.

I bought these on amazon (EPAuto CP285) and they didn't fit because of that plastic piece. I didn't actually need to replace my original filter yet so I gave the filters to a friend with a Corolla.

Thanks, I may give those a try. Based on cleat direction it probably fits even with that plastic insert that kept the above filter from fitting.

I received mine Friday and can confirm also that the TYC800208C fits exactly like the OEM filter.

Sounds like they are bilking customers. Might want to change dealers.

There was a way, actually, a reason for the early change: it turned out a rodent was getting at OP's filter.

Filthy! That's the only way to describe it after 11 or 12 months in my 2016 Prius. I bought the OEM Toyota cabin filter for 15 bucks, online somewhere. (Cheaper than my lunch!) No hesitation whatsoever in buying new filters once a year. And getting the oil change at the same time. It makes me laugh, guys spend 30 grand on a Prius, and then don't want to spend 5 minutes putting in a new clean $15 filter.

I just ordered a Toyota 'enhanced' cabin filter for my Gen 4. Earlier someone said it's more expensive than the standard one.

However, when I called the dealer in London to order one, he said it's 34 pounds for the standard one, and 22 pounds for the enhanced one. I figured I'd give it a try since I spend a lot of time in traffic behind horrible diesel vehicles.

Just replaced my cabin filter that was white at new. After 11 months and 8,500 miles in London traffic, it's pretty dirty. I put in an enhanced filter as Toyota reckon it traps 25% more pollutants than the regular filter. 1497255726948.jpg

Thanks for the picture. Those filters seem to do a good job. Mine looks the same after 1 year. Time for a new one.

I know this is an old thread but here is my step by step video how to replace the cabin air filter. I hope this is helpful.
