Alas, that's 275-ish miles away - the War Department, most likely, would NOT approve... although she DOES have some long-time friends who live near there! - AND it's the "Advanced" which, also alas, is out of our price range. We've ordered the Premium, mostly because of the larger display which, I'm thinking, will probably be very much the "norm" for ALL makes / models within four or five years....

Thanks... and trust me, WE'RE "stunned", too! And I'm sure I'm not the only one around here (Prius Chat) that's been through this before. We ordered our '08 soon after gas got above $3.50/gallon, and then it was over $4.00... and finally we got MITHRIL some two months later, RIGHT after gas started dropping again! (And this was when they WERE "available" around here... it was a pure-and-simple "waiting list" issue at the time.)

In the meantime, THIS time around, if I don't have any more-or-less specific info on when we MIGHT get what we just ordered by, say, the middle of July, I might just have to make a trip to up-state NY and do some in-person hunting / shopping there. I have a brother / a couple of nephews / an aunt and cousin all living up that-a-way, and I might just rent a room for a month or so....

Aw come Mr. Gloin, 275 miles, that'd be a fun run for ya, and the "War Department" (and she hasn't slapped you upside the head!!, why the woman must be a saint!!, har, har), would love you forever for getting the Advanced with those extra safety toys and whistles! Just grind down those Neanderthal salespeople; show 'em how they're going to now be able to face their families, and sleep at night! They owe you that discount for your past loyalty and all the clients you'll now be sending them IF they give you a good deal!

Beware what you wish for. In June 2008 I ordered a 2008 Prius - this was at a time when there were long waits to get one (at least here in Minnesota). In October 2008, I got the good news that my Prius was here - but they had substituted a 2009 model. Turns out the ONLY difference was a price increase!

Yeah, I had to cough up another 2 grand as a down payment to get the finance terms I requested, I was originally going to travel to the DC area to pick up a Blue Magnetism/black interior premium, but when I called the three local dealers here in Michigan and told them that I was travelling to DC Suburban Toyota said they will have an Advanced one available in a couple of days. I couldn't resist, saving a long distance trip convinced me to go local.

Here is another hypothesis that explains why there are such regional differences in Prime availability: Voters in Trump States Less Likely to Buy Green Cars | TheDetroitBureau.com

A new study reveals that demand for battery-electric vehicles, or BEVs, and other “green” cars is strongest in states that voted for Hillary Clinton in the last election, while sales of environmentally friendly vehicles is generally far lower in states that backed Donald Trump.

Some of the reasons why are obvious, said Levy. States where demand for plug-based vehicles is highest generally have several factors in common:

    • Higher fuel prices that encourage a shift to relatively cheap electric power;
    • State subsidies that can further enhance the federal incentives on qualified models like the new Prius Prime plug-in hybrid and the Chevrolet Bolt EV; and
    • A more readily accessible public charging network.
There are other, more speculative factors at work, added Carjojo CEO Levy. In states with lower demand for green cars, such as Texas and Florida, fuel prices tend to be lower. There are fewer public charging stations, and driving distances are typically greater, meaning motorists experience more range anxiety with battery-based vehicles.

Although I disagree with the logic, I don't find fault the problem of attitude and 'social pressure' leading to the effect. For example, I offered a test ride to one of my distant cousins in Stillwater OK and he adamantly refused. He would look at the car and understand the technology but his fear was real. Yet at the same family gathering he claimed "Hillary should be in jail!"

I grew up in the Dixie part of Oklahoma and live in Huntsville AL. I love the food, way of talk, and kindnesses often shown but also realize the dark side of the force is close and easily revealed.

On a practical point of Prime ownership, I went to the Decatur dealer to arrange for the 5k warranty check. I mentioned needing to have the wheel alignment checked ... their machine did not have the Prius Prime specifications! Worse, they didn't think to use the Gen-4 or any Prius metrics ... Huh? There will be more about this later in another thread.

    Bob Wilson

ps. I test drove a Prime in Decatur but that car was sold before I could get it the next day. I bought mine in Rhode Island and drove it 1,200 miles home.

I had been wondering if there might be a "President Trump vs Secretary Clinton / Likelihood of Buying Green Cars" correlation sort of thing going on from sea to ever-rising sea, but I didn't want to be the first (here) to suggest the possibility, whether WITH or withOUT any form of evidence.

PS: Odd... according to the map / info above, a majority of adults in EVERY state "believes global warming is happening"....

There is now one more Prime on the road in the midwest. Took delivery tonight on my Magnetic Gray Advanced. It will drive me to a Health Care Die-In tomorrow at my congress critters office.

    Driving a plug-in to a protest - love it! I'm amongst friends. :)

Welcome to our community. And, for those who have endured my whining over the past several months, today is the day! Picking up my titanium glow advanced baby this morning.

Congrats! There is a lot to unlearn from driving other cars, hybrids even. But you have a head start from this forum. (y)

PS: you will have a lot of fun with this car. Besides the SOS issue, I haven't heard of many negatives. As McD's says: I'm loving it! :D

Aren't typoes humorous? Sometimes ironic too. Driving a healthy green car to a Die-in?

Won't that put the ambulance drivers out of business? :D
