With all the rain on the East Coast, is there anything I need to be mindful about driving in heavy rain? There's a lot of standing water and large puddles everywhere. It's ugly here in DC. (Parts of the Government's shut down, roads washed out, cars and houses flooded, etc...) I'm sure everything's water tight on the Prius, but I just don't want to short anything out going through a largish puddle with water spraying everywhere. Anyone have any experiences shorting the Prius out? Is it even remotely possible?

I haven't heard anything about shorting out going through big puddles, but definitely don't try crossing a road if you can't tell how deep the water is! Maybe a call to Toyota Corporate would help. BTW, how can you tell for sure that part of the government's shut down and not just doing their daily routine? (Hmmmm...maybe that's an FHOP topic!!).

My wife thought I was crazy and would be electrocuted. I don't know about the electrocution, but she is probably right that I shouldn't have chanced going through deep water.
At 5 inches you're still within ground clearance of the car, but close to the plastic conduit carrying the battery cables under the body. Not that getting those wet should matter, of course. I'd be more concerned about some of the lower-placed sensor connectors on the engine and transaxle, such as the crank angle reluctor and the position sensors for the MGs. And maybe the wheel-speed sensors. All of these plugs are the "water-resistant" type with gaskets, but extended total immersion or heavy splash may still get past that. If the hybrid system can't read the motor/generator positions, it won't be able to function at all. . _H*

This weather is getting pretty ridiculous. This shouldn't be happening in June. Everyone says my Prius always looks like it's smiling, but I can see the smile fading just a bit...
