I already have a dashcam in the front behind my rearview mirror which I powered from the cable harness I have used for my stealth stereo install.

I have ordered a second dashcam which I want to mount in the rear on the lower part of the rear window. For this I will need power.

What would be the best/most easy way to provide this power to the dashcam? 12 volt accessory power would be best so the dashcam turns on/off with the car.

    Any ideas?

Thanks for your replies! I'll try to remove the plastic covers to see if I can take the power from there. Would be nice!

,even though the car may not have the backup camera installed they still install the harness for it. It's in the hatch and has switched 12 volts.
Search back through my old posts as I listed the color codes.

Thanks for your reply, am still waiting for the dashcam I ordered to arrive :)

I have a multimeter (is this a word in English too?) which I can use to find the right wires once I have the harness.

But can you tell me where I find the harness? You mention the 'hatch', can you elaborate?

My car is a European prius 2 from 2005.

    Thanks again

Yes, it is. I believe the Dutch stole it from English.:ROFLMAO::whistle:
He is referring to the inside of the tailgate (AKA the rear door).

lol, yes that makes sense :)

Ok thanks for explaining! I'll remove the plastic and look for the harness once I receive the dashcam I ordered.

PS: I googled 'tailgate', that seems like a nice way to spend an afternoon!

For the people finding this post through the search function:

I removed the lower and mid plastic panels using a big plastic spudger tool I also used for the stealth radio job I did before this. The panels came off relatively easy. I went looking for 12 volt using a multimeter and there was not a lot to chose from. I did find what I think would be the cable harness for a rear cam but there was no power on any of the cables.

I ended up using the power from the windscreen wiper motor which also had some room for the pcb that came with the power cable of the dashcam. I installed the cam on the lower window which had just enough room and am happy with the result.

I do have one issue which is that the camera is not remembering the date/time setting. The one in the front which is the same model does not have this problem. When I turn off the car the front cam stays on a couple of seconds longer than the one in the rear. The front camera is connected to accessory power (from the radio). I still have to switch the cameras to see if this is the cause.

    thanks for the info
