More accurately: BMW i3-REx - could be more reliable and tires are expensive and wear asymmetrically backup 2010 Prius - lacked dynamic cruise control which has become a non-negotiable, hard requirement I still like the BMW i3-REx but it has to alternate with the Prius Prime until it reaches 50k miles in January 2019. If I can fix the tire wear; gas range, and; highway MPG, it has a chance of staying. Bob Wilson
You would think. It was the same when I was buying my 2010. 3/6 dealers knew a new design was coming, the other 3 said "it was the same design for 2010". Neither knew when or where it would arrive. It just shows up one day I guess.
I was speaking to a few local dealers in Ontario. Some had no idea, but 2 said there is no plan for a Canada wide release in spring any longer, and that it will start with a Quebec only release this spring. I dont really trust information on the dealership level, and certainly hope this isnt true. My diesel VW is being bought back in the next couple of months and I was hoping to line up delivery of a Prime around the same time... Hoping for some good news in the coming weeks
Quebec did put into effect a legislation similar to California so I would imagine they want to direct as many units to that province to earn those credits.
Yes I have the same info as GBD85. As far as my dealership knows they won't receive any Prime's until December and maybe not until next year. At this point Quebec will be getting them in the near future but even they don't seem to know when that might be. The MTO in Ontario said that Toyota has not applied as yet for the government incentive so that is a good indication that they don't plan to have any available here in Ontario for quite some time.
I hope it isn't true. I need a new car before September for replacement of my 2010 prius. A Honda civic coupe (my 2nd choice) looks more likely end up on my driveway. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
There's a two page spread on the Prime in the Spring/Summer edition of Club Toyota Magazine (Toyota Canada infomercial mag), but going through the article line-by-line I don't see any ETA.
Corolla has no match against civic in every way..Prime is my first choice becuz of HOV and outstanding feul econ. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I wonder if there is a problem with the low temps. we see re the lithium battery? You wouldn't experience that problem in the east, but in the prairies, -40C to -50C is possible every winter! I recall the lithium battery doesn't like -30C or below, but maybe I'm "remembering" something false? But they -are- getting the Prime in Alaska, and they get just as cold or colder there. So maybe the temp is a "red herring".
I recall something was mentioned by Toyota with 4th gen advent: below certain temp the lithium battery models just won't start, by design. It was an extremely cold number: -30C?
I believe they said 0F but I read a review from wintry New York where they did not have any issue. They may have been lucky though,
0F is -18C for those metrically challenged. Oh, and it's not "really cold", it's just "cool". Below -40C is "cold", and once I experienced -50C. THAT was "really cold"! I'm pretty sure I read something about ambient temperatures in the Prime owners manual I downloaded. Someday I'll have a week to kill and will re-read it.
There'll be a "traction battery heater" for use in Alaska and Canada. Sounds about right. But for clarity, it's when the battery temperature gets to -30°C and not the air temperature (so parking it for a few minutes outside won't affect it. I think you'd have to cold soak it for nearly a day or two for the internal temperature to drop down to that. It's not 0°F. It's -30°C. (-22°F)
Just wondering what other EV''s you folks may be considering because of Toyota's unwillingness to give us Canadians some idea when this car will be available to us . I for one am now seriously looking at either a Bmw i3 with a range extender or a Audi E tron. Anyone else getting tired of waiting.
Here is an older comparison thread that mentions their data souce. It may be a start. Plug-in Evaluation Planning | PriusChat The i3-REx does not appear to have the reloability of a Toyota. That is oartly why Bob bought a Prime. Why the BMW i3-REx | Page 17 | PriusChat For you guys in Toronto, could you buy a Prime in Buffalo NY and import it? Just another thought.
Canadian vehicles have different reg's, daytime running lights for starters. Also, the car would be mostly imperial gauge, with only the speedo changeable to kmh. For someone so hot to buy, I would say just get a regular 2017 Prius, more hatch space and a spare to boot. Pretty much all the Canadian models have spare btw, apart from top level with some extra "tech" package.
