I was looking around the country for dealers that have Prius available, when I came across on at Boulder Toyota in Colorado. I send an email asking if it is for sale. The reply is: It's a White Package #9 going to the highest bid, currently at $28,600. Are you interested in making a bid? Well I am not interested in a car auction that is already $2,600 over MSRP. Anyone else interested? I sure hope not.
I am aware of a dealer in the SF Bay Area that holds an auction like that. Let's say they get in a driftwood #9. They call the next three people on the list that want that car and have them come down to the showroom. They then hold an auction right on the spot. They charge $3000 over MSRP to start, and the bidding starts there. Believe it or not!!!
