Well, I am in EU so speedometer is way more optimist here.

But at least tailgaters do not carry guns :)

Just adopt the attitude of being thankful for their noble sacrifice to keep the gas company in business. There would probably be a lot of gas station bankruptcies if everyone drove a Prius.

I agree with the contention that if you aren't use to a hatchback, some of the tailgating can be the simple illusion that the vehicles are closer.
Sedans with trunks and back windows, create a necessary space between the rear viewing window and the vehicle following. With a Hatchback, it may not really be following any closer BUT it look as if it is, simply because the only space between the vehicle and your back window is the bumper.

    That being said.
Do people tailgate Prius, perhaps more than other vehicles? I say yes. It does happen.
My advice is to drive safely, sanely...and let those that can't get over the badging on the vehicle ahead of them, and want to drive aggressively as a result of any preconceived prejudices they may have against "Prius" alone to their own self created hell. They usually tailgate first, followed by an aggressive high speed pass. This is their own stupidity, and on the highway at 55 mph or more, you can't change stupid. You can try to stay safe.
Don't slow down, don't antagonize. Best to just ignore.
    Strive to stay safe.
If you can? Get over and perhaps save the tailgating idiot from themselves.

True dat! When I start to get annoyed, I look for ways to let them get around me. Always better to have the bonehead in front where they're less likely to use your car to customize their own.

Wow I can't believe this, I had a Prius C for the last 4+ years and never a problem. Just bought a Plug In about 6 weeks ago, I've had several tailgaters, one just yesterday big truck honking his horn and hand gestures. I was going over the posted speed limit (which I do all too often).

I'm starting to thing there is a Hate the Prius thing going on. I'm guessing most people didn't know what the Prius C was where this one there is no hiding :)

Windshield wipers, ball bearings...no road rage here is there?

Surprisingly I did not read in this thread a "brake check" option or reducing speed to infuriate the tailgater even further...oh my.

Again best is to move right or pull over and keep your mind focused on driving.

16 months with my Prius. have not had any issues with tailgaters. Possibly because I tend to drive faster than everyone else. I like to stretch her legs.

If you think tailgaters are bad in the Prius you should try towing a small camper behind a Prius on 95. Smile and wave is the mantra of the day

Well, former Prius owner/driver here (2008 Gen II) who now drives a Subaru Forester. I occasionally get tailgated even now, but it seemed worse then. Maybe it's because I drive my age?

Yes, it a stereotype, but based on the fact that new Prius drivers love to maximize EV and act as rolling speed blocks.

When I encounter such a inconsiderate prius driver, I tailgate and honk too. It's OK coming from a Prius driver, right?

I flip the rear view mirror down into night mode then I can't see them. Then I turn up the tunes.

If they tailigate me even for a 1 minute duration, I brake hard to test out their braking power and reflexes. LOL
