Has anyone found if there is a correlation between LED's and a flashing tpms light? I have a 13 Prius with only interior Leds and I've taken my car to the dealer 4 times they can't figure it out. They changed all the monitors and the receiver. I've had the Led's for over a year with no issues, then I had new tires put on and that's when the issue started.

From your description, I'd guess TPMS batteries (they do fail!) That, or try new dealer? Sorry I can't help more, but I'm sure there are others here who are sure to know exactly what your problem is! Good luck!

When the dealer hooks up to the car with Techstream, they can see the ID of each sensor, its battery status, the pressure and temperature it's reading, and the reasons for any time the TPMS lit the warning light. They could show you all that right on the laptop screen. Weird that they'd want to give you the impression they've got no information and swapping parts is the best they can do....

Thanks for the reply. I got the codes from the dealer they are C2121-24 basically means no signal from transmitters 1-4. The dealer has switched the sensors in all 4 tires (called them monitors in 1st post) they also switched the tpms receiver and still get the flashing light. It flashes for about a minute then it stays solid.
I guess my question is,would the frequency of the interior LED's somehow affect the tpms receiver? Causing the tpms light to flash? I was reading other posts on here that brought up the question but was never really answered. By the way this is all warranty work and they haven't said anything about the LED's (which could technically void said warranty) I'm going to switch out the LED's before going back to the dealer. The dealer thinks they installed a bad receiver and want to switch it for a new one.

No signal from anything, yes, that does suggest radiofrequency interference. You could consider bypass capacitors / ferrites / etc. on the wires serving the lights where you've installed LEDs.

Are the LEDs you're using actively regulated (if you have a variable voltage power supply to feed them with, and you sweep the voltage up from, oh, 10-ish to 14-ish, do they stay about the same brightness and decrease their current draw)?

I've never experienced an LED by itself being much of a source of noise, but cheap switch-mode regulators certainly can be.

You'd probably want unregulated in a Prius anyway, at least for the cabin lights, so the glamorous fade-up/fade-down doesn't get defeated by the regulator.

This is strange case I do not think we have heard any similar issue.

There are of course 2 elements to the TPMS system - (1) the 4 tire sensors, and (2) the receiver/logic unit in the car.
The vast majority of our discussion concerns the tire TPMS sensors, and they last a long time normally. Mine are going on 11 years old, and so far only one battery has failed in one tire. If one does break or goes bad, then the light comes on. Techstream should allow finding a bad unit. Gotta wonder if somebody is missing a bad TPMS.

Possibly the receiver unit had gone bad, which I don't recall ever hearing that before. One of our members here on Prius Chat got technical and figured out how to send code to the receiver unit to change the number of TPMS to 5 from 4 so he could check the spare tire pressure. Also there have been some hacks on the wiring mentioned on some websites, if I recall, to turn the warning light off. A wire could be misplaced in a insert socket somewhere.

Thanks for the reply. The dealer has already changed all 4 sensors and the receiver in the past 2 days. The tpms system was working fine until a tire change. It's just hard for me to believe that changing a set of tires would ruin 4 sensor and a receiver. So what we're trying to figure out is would having interior LED's make the tpms light flash? I take it back to the dealer on 4-19 and they are planning on installing a new receiver. They think the one they installed might have been defective. I have swapped out my LED's for 2 reasons,1. To see if that would cause the issue. 2. So I won't run into any warranty issues.
I'll will post the results from my next dealer trip to see if they can resolve the issue.

My hunch is the tire shop messed up something.

Sprayed/soaked the sensors along with the wheel with lub. when installing the tires?

DO check that the LEDs are linear, not switching type. If there is no chip on the board, just a resistor or two then they are linear and won't cause any problems.

The only thing I can think of:
let's say you have the code set to a spare tire sitting on the garage floor, and that tire is low pressure.
So then when you pull into the garage the receiver picks up the signal and tells you its flat. This is basically what I do intentionally (with a good pressure) to turn my light off, even though I have one bad one. Actually I use a variation of that idea, but it works.

If I recall (check me on this) the Gen3 receiving unit may be located above the driver side door on the roof (inside) so I don't know if your LED work got into that area for some reason. Gen2 it was located near the dash which one might expect.

Thank you guys for all the info. After the new sensors and receiver it worked for about 75 miles then the light came back on flashing for a minute the staying solid. I think because the sensors and receiver are new the next logical step would be to install a new control module. But when I go back tomorrow they're going to change the receiver again. Lucky for me that it's still under warranty or I would just put a price of black tape over it. Lol.

Black tape worked for a week until my wife saw what I did!

I am not sure this might be related but did the tire shop reset the TPMS after new tires were put on? I know for my 2005 Sienna, it uses the ABS sensors to measure the wheel revolutions. When my van got new tires, the shop forgot to reset the system so my tire pressure warning light kept coming on. I reset it and it did not come back. I am not sure what the Prius manual calls for after the tires are replaced.

Yeah the tire shop reset the sensors. The dealer has replace all 4 sensors and the receiver so far. I go back tomorrow for another receiver. I swapped out the LED's for original bulbs, that's what we're trying to figure out if the LED's would affect the tpms system? I don't think they would considering everything was fine prior to the tire swap. But you never know.

It is very strange, that even with all the parts swapped out, the system STILL is not working.

What's goofy, and as a card carrying lapsed cargo cultist I have to note: there is nothing functionally wrong with the car, with it's ability to get you places and so on. All this hair-pulling consternation is over a system intended to detect problems, lol.

I agree that functionally there's nothing to worry about; I figure since it's on Toyota's dime might as well get them to fix it. I just can't believe in 4 trips to the dealer that they can't figure it out. I would hate to start all over with a new dealer.

Well folks looks like the LED's were not the culprit. It was a video cable to a aftermarket back up cam. It must not have been shielded. I had them unplug it and so no more flashing tpms but no back up cam either.

I don't know why it would take a tire change 8 months after the cameras install, to trigger the tpms light.

Planning to try replacing it with a shielded one?
