There is a California dealer that sells Toyota Oil for very low price (4.50/quart) via their online website. I used to know the answer to this, but of course lost the bookmark. Help please.
You do know that any 0w-20 oil is fine, right? amazon.com/Case-Quarts-Toyota-Synthetic-0W-20/dp/B00JDSXLHY
Just for a Canadian data point: Open Road Toyota Port Moody: Bottled liters of Toyota 0W20: $5.91 (Canadian dollars) Bulk liters of same: $4.50
CARSON TOYOTA is the SoCal dealer that sells cheap Toyota-brand oil: 2012 Toyota Prius Parts - Carson Toyota/Scion/Lexus Ultimate OEM Parts PART NO. 002790WQTE01 $5.80 Also here's a cheap dealer on the east coast: 2012 Toyota Prius Parts - Toyota of Hollywood $4.74
Many people here use Mobil One. I think Walmart tends to have the lowest price on that in a 5 quart jug.
Just an ecological plug: if you're DIY and the dealership is willing to sell you bulk, that keeps a lot of oil contaminated bottles out of the recycle stream, or worse: going straight to landfills.
In the past I've had to get a bottled liter sometimes, when my bulk container wasn't going to be enough. The two oils appear/smell exactly the same. Both from our nearby Toyota dealership. The bulk Toyota oil is what they use in the main, in their service bays: they have large graduated pitchers pre-filled, for pending oil changes Trust is invaluable, without it everything pretty much everything comes to a halt, lol. Contractors will refuse to get started on jobs, clients refuse to put down deposits, make commitments.
I have trust issues, cause I believe many people are out to make an extra buck. That's why I mainly DIY stuff. I'll know the quality that goes into it Jiffy lube comes to mind
Yes but Toyota is made by Mobil, and specifically-designed for their hybrids. It's a quality oil that Bobistheoilguy.com has called "oil made in heaven": Is Toyota 0W-20 SN made in heaven? | Passenger Car Motor Oil (PCMO) - Gasoline Cars/Pickups/Vans/SUVs | Bob Is The Oil Guy If I can't find Toyota oil, then I use Mobil Fuel Ecomony or Mobil Extended performance. Walmart and Costco sell it for 4.50 per quart (price drop).
what brand of oil do the dealer service depts use? One Toyota dealer told me they replenish their bulk oil monthly. they purchase whatever brand of oil that has the best price. It might be Pennzoil or Mobil or Texaco etc. I just had my 3rd synthetic oil service. I have it changed every 5,000 miles due to many short trips style of driving. I consider it cheap insurance. None of my vehicles have ever burned oil.
My dealership says their bulk oil is Genuine Toyota Motor Oil. I take them at their word. I'm changin oil at 5000 mile or 6 month interval (6 months governs, invariably), and level never budges. So far, but I wouldn't lose any sleep if it did consume a little, that's more the norm in my past car experience. They also have it bottled, but I'm now buying bulk in a reusable container, avoids cluttering the recycle stream with myriad oil contaminated bottles.
