Yesterday, when I started the car and shifted into reverse, the backup cam came on, but when I shifted to drive, the Prius Hybrid Synergy Drive screen appeared again instead of the info screen. The display blinked between the Prius screen and a completely blank screen for a few minutes. As the car interior cooled down. down, the info screen began appearing intermittently. When the car cooled down more, the info screen stayed on. It was 100 degrees outside and I park in a driveway with southern exposure. I have a bad feeling the MFD does not react well to heat, but surely people are parking outside in hotter climates? Anyone else seen this? Stealthgirl 2006 Silver/Gray Leather San Jose, CA
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(stealthgirl @ Jun 23 2006, 06:26 PM) </div> It's more than likely a bad connection that's caused when the wiring in the back of the display heats up - I've had the interior of my car well over 100f in the California sun and it was just fine. If it happens again, I'd take it to the dealer to diagnose. Dave
i havnt had a problem with that yet, however we have a 05, but last week, its really hot, the outside temp showed 99 degree, im sure it was way more than that, MFD was fine...
I have two 06's and both are in up to 104 degrees outside in direct sunlight... no probs so far... Maybe the screen was a such an angle the sun was hitting it directly? Direct sunlight verses ambient temperature can have dramatically different effects on metal and plastic.
We have some pretty warm days here in the Eastern Oregon desert and I have had no problems, yet anyway. I think it's engineered to take the heat so maybe you have some sort of problem. At least it's good it showed up now while the car is new.
go get that checked out sooner than later. it's best for you and the tech if they can reproduce the problem, and that usually means taking it in relatively soon after the problem occurs. good luck.
Thanks for the advice. I will take it to the dealer later this week and report back. Stealthgirl 2006 Silver/Gray Leather San Jose, CA
yup... shouldn't be the temps. We were at 104 today, and the car was in the sun the whole day. No problem (except I couldn't touch anything for several minutes!)
Here in the SUMMER OVEN of DALLAS (96º - 100º) - no tellin' what the interior temp. is after sitting on the parking lot for a day of work - I've had no problems at all with the MFD. My principal issues with the MFD are it's tendency to darken too much when viewed through polarized sunglasses and its general dimness in summer sunlight. Probably other drivers think I'm rather strange tilting me head WAY LEFT to read the MFD with sunglasses on.
Hi all, The MFD acted up again this week (temp about 105) and this time, the stereo also went on and off. I took it to the dealer and they couldn't find anything. There are two Prius techs at my dealer. They looked for a TSA and checked for service codes. I expect to reproduce the issue later this week when it heats up in San Jose again. My plan this time is to drive to the dealer's without turning on the AC so the issue will not correct itself before I get there. And by the way, Charles, I totally agree with the crappy visibility in bright light. I have the same issue with my phone. Stealthgirl 2006 Silver/Gray Leather San Jose, CA
Hi all, In January, while driving in high winds (gusty for Palm Springs), the radio, nav system, and air conditioner failed along with the screen acting up. The dealer could not reproduce this or the high temp failure I had last summer, but they replaced the MFD under original factory warranty. I won't feel completely sure it's fixed unless I make it through another high temp summer without the issue.
