I've heard the Jeep Wrangler described as having the aerodynamics "of a garden shed on wheels".

Will do later today. These new Wabasto sunroofs that are put in after market are supposed to ADD structural integrity to the vehicle. See latest product update here: Webasto: Structure Plus

Also, the new headliner is sooooo nice, so much better than that popcornie stuff. It is done so well, looks and operates factory installed in every way. Slightest difference in the original dove colored head liner and the light grey of the new. Indistinguishable in most lights. The roof was installed just like a factory roof, 4 drip channels with tubs for water run off at the wheel bases. It has a nice illuminated switch. And riding with the roof (big sunroof!) Open is just divine!

I'm getting a sun roof put in a couple months after getting the Prius and paying it off. Car isn't coming in for another month or two sadly.

    No.

There are two types of sun roofs:
    1. Those that leak.
    2. Those that are going to leak.

In doing a substantial amount of research, I believe this to be significantly more folklore than fact. The technology has evolved. Your smart phone works better then it did 10 years ago. So too do sunroofs, factory installed or otherwise. Incidents of malfunction or leaking are quite rare. An Internet search will return many anecdotal phenomon, good and bad. The quantitative data on satisfaction and results are overwhelmingly positive. THE satisfied customers are enjoying their ride, not flaming up the internet. True Story.

Yeah but!! We would install Webasto sunroofs on customer cars at our dealership; fine product, but you lost as much as 1.5 to 2 inches of headspace.
Our taller customers were not happy unless previously informed. Don't know what it did to integrity of structure, but it did add weight. Never followed up to see if they leaked over time. They still offered only a very small hole of sky, and not a whole lot of sky! They did make a lot of noise at speed, the whistle effect. Opening a select window(s) could help. All in all, not worth the $1000 charged. If you want the sky over your head, buy a bloody '69 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce like I did, and keep your Prime for sane driving!

I'm 6'4" and didn't lose any head room? Not a half an inch. Noise at 68 on the highway is minimal. And my roof is BIG. Will share pics.

    +1......only mine was a Miata.

Excellent point about the wind noise.....I forgot about that.

Sunroofs have their place in the automotive world, but if I were ever to buy a used car then a non-OEM unit would be a bright red line for me not to step over.

On the other hand......if you do what I usually do which is to buy a car new and drive it until it's worth <$1,000 then the sunroof will not negatively affect the value of the car provided that (a) you're into them, (b) you're not bothered by the additional wind noise and (c) it doesn't leak....
I don't place much stock in (d) fuel economy might be negatively impacted and (e) structural rigidity is compromised.

    Good Luck!
    Post pix!

The loss in headroom was mainly due to electric motor assembly. The cars were GTV Alfa Romeos and Renaults. The noise, which I also experienced with my factory 68 VW Beetle sunroof, was a reasonance which started at about 30mph and would drive you crazy unless you opened the windows. The little wind deflector built into the roof did nothing to abate this howl. Also roof leaked if you didn't periodically clean the gutters and drains. I ended up hating sunroofs. Step up man! Get a bloody convertible! Had my little boat tail for 14 years; now that I have a 2-car garage again....? Sadly that little '69 Alfa Spider is now about 20 times more to buy than when I had it! It costs more than my new Prime.

With all due respect Mr. Chacha, my Stupid Phone is not much better at providing RELIABLE service as the phone I had 30 years ago! Yeah, I got one of them $3500 built-in-your-car phones. Then I got The Brick (Motorola). The quality of service hasn't changed that much, although all the crap added has certainly. Give me back my old reliable flip phone, and less annoying, obsessive, harranguing, distracting "Smart" phones. I remember a fairly recent review of an iPhone which summarized, "fun toy; not much of a phone!" And don't get me started on smartphone updates ! As far as sunroofs ....eh!

Based on the issues my friend had with his Camry's moon roof, that looks a better unit than what could have been factory.

How much did it run, if you don't mind me asking. I could imagine that it was a pretty significant amount! Looks great by the way! I almost thought it was factory.

$1200. I take horrible pics with a Samsung Galaxy 6. It's pretty sweet.
