Taxes and fees not included. It's a new 2016 model without the ATP or PCP. There aren't a ton of 2016's in my area that come in the color I would like to buy. Wondering if this is worth snatching up...would prefer it to have the moonroof that comes in the ATP package, but it isn't a deal breaker. I like the heated seats and Blind Spot Sensor so would prefer this to the 3T. Looks like I could get a 2017 4 with ATP for around 27k + taxes. Just don't really think the moonroof is worth an extra couple grand. Any thoughts or sage advice? First time (new car) buyer here.
Neither am I. I just think that the Prime is a better value......and yes, "better enough" to fly somewhere and get one. Just opining. Good Luck!
Since the Prime would cost more what makes you feel it is a better value? (Besides riding in the HOV lane).
some think a plug in is a better deal than the lift back, just because you get the battery and/or hov, for a decent price after tax credits. but when you compare the lift back package 4, at $23,600. vs the prime you would need to buy with similar amenities, the lift back is actually a much better car, if you don't care about plugging in and ev driving. plus, you get 5 seats, full hatch space, and room for a spare tire, if you want one.
^ what he said. I've done the numbers and within the parameters set by the OP, and yeah.....23.6 is a fair price for an up-optioned G4. However (comma!) you're paying a lot for optional stuff. Since we're talking about *California* you get a state kickback and a federal kickback, which will easily bring a Prime to within price parity of the regular G4. (Something like 6-kilobucks off of the MSRP) Just raising awareness. For some people, the G4 is a better car. For others? The Prime is. Buy quickly. Your gas taxes go up 18 cents at the end of the year, and registration "fees" (taxes) go up sharply as well. YMMV
Really great info here, thanks for the reply. Just a question - you said it's a fair price...what would a great price be? I shopped it around and most other dealers wouldn't touch it. Edit: It did come with the floor mat package and the black application package to the shifter - so I was wrong about it coming with no packages.
Awesome, thanks Bisco. I actually prefer not to have to plugin because of where I live and ended up going with the 4.
I'm the wrong person to ask, since I'm a G3 guy and I believe the options are overpriced on the car. Also....I don't live in The Golden State, and gas here is still $2 a gallon. Here's the deal. If you buy a G4 for what you consider to be a good price, then it's a good price. Relax and enjoy the car. If you play your cards right, then ten years or so from now, you'll be ready to buy a new G6 or leftover G5 Prius and you will have saved enough to pay cash for the next car. Otherwise? You're just making car payments for the rest of your life and the cash price is wholly irrelevant. Oh......it's one HELLUVA smarter than doing the same thing with muscle cars, or pickup trucks to be sure, but I would have bought a G4-2....AND got the rebate! That's why.....FOR ME.... $23K (plus TTL) for me is a fair price for a new Prius. That's ALSO why I would have gotten a Prime instead, but as you say, that's not a car that you're interested in. So.... Best of Luck!!
I agree with ETC(SS), buying a Prius Prime will be better option. Reason being, you can find Prius Prime Premium level for 27700 - 2500 TM cash back = 25200 before TTL and if you purchase quickly you may get 4502 tax credit from the Feds, for California HOV sticker.
Seems like a good deal to me. FWIW, I just paid $26,300 OTD for a loaded Four Touring with Premium package (MSRP $33,300).
OTD (out the door) meaning with all taxes and fees? That is amazing. Most people seem to be getting around MSRP after taxes and fees (e.g., if taxes and fees are $5k, and MSRP is $30k, people say "I paid only $25k, plus $5k in taxes and fees.").
