Just want to let people know in the Kansas City area of a terrible experience at Roger Smith and Sons. When our Prius was taken in for the 1,000 mile oil change they: Insisted that it would need 10W40 oil, finally relented and Put in 4 quarts of 5W30 oil (the dipstick reads about half an inch above full) Took 7 pounds of pressure out of the rear tires and 9 pounds out of the front tires, insisting that "all of their tires are maintained at 33 pounds" The tire pressure sensor warning light has been on all day; I wonder if they know that it exists Needless to say, we will not be going back to that dealership, ever.

Unreal Make sure you do not leave that oil a half inch above full. You will be doing yourself (and your Prius) a favor by getting rid of that excess.
1000 miles is too soon too. 5000 to 7000 is best especially with synthetic. Sounds more like a quick-lube than an actual "trained" dealership. Feel free to leave comments on local.yahoo.com, the Toyota Customer phone line, BBB, whomever else.
Definitely call Toyota Customer Care. They'll likely view this as a quality control problem with a dealership who carries their name. Best to approach this problem "from the top down." And besides, it's your car, dangit! If they don't want to put what you (and the manual) say to put in it, turn around, walk out, and take your car to one of the other KC area dealerships. And be sure to let them know why you're not returning!
I don't get the 1000 mile thing. No one does that. Did the dealer set the maintenance reminder schedule to 1000. Mine sets it to 5000 just like the book says. Sounds like a bad dealer/service to me.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Salsawonder @ Jun 22 2006, 11:08 PM) </div> My dealer (which seems to have some very knowledgable people) gave me a certificate for a free 1,000 mile check-up as part of the new-car sale. They said it is to check that everything is going okay and they do an oil change -- but it isn't really necessary and is not part of the scheduled maintenance.
