It looks like I'm buying a Prime Advanced in Western NY. Do I fly in for $250 and drive it back to Denver or do I have someone ship it for me? I have no idea how or who to ask to have the car shipped. How much does it cost?

Congratulations!! For me, the drive would be worth getting a Prime from as far away as possible. :)

Do you forgo the $5000 CO credit available by buying a Prime at a CO dealer if you buy outside of CO? (I understand that CO dealers don't have any Primes)

I'd drive too......but that is a really personal decision.

Ask the selling dealer about "shipping".
They should be able to put you in touch with a company that does that; maybe more than one.

P.S. It makes me a little nervous that someone who wants this car SOOOOOOO BAD that they buy one from 2000 miles away and maybe risk not having good service locally........is now worried about the shipping cost. How many years did you finance it for ?? :(

Shipping is common, for example, people moving. I believe Dianne Whitmire has shipped a lot of new Prii from CA, and quite a few shipped PiP's to CA from back East in 2012. I am not the expert, but we once shipped used car when we moved.

I view long distance driving as work, so shipping the car was an easy decision for me.
    • I could work and make money at my regular job instead of taking days off to drive
    • No wear on the car
    • No plane ticket
    • No hotels or expensive food
    • No state of purchase registration or temp plates or dealership fees
And not to be under-estimated: no worry that I would walk into the dealership and be faced with changes in terms I would be hard-pressed to walk away from. We are talking about car dealers here. Actually, when I bought my car from New Rochelle the first Bill of Sale had a couple of new fees added. I shot off a quick SMS pretty much saying 'I never agreed to these fees. Remove them' and received an amended Bill of Sale a few minutes later. If I was sitting in the dealership and the salescritter responded with some nonsense like 'these are mandatory fees for all cars. I'm sorry' -- what could I have done ?

I agree that the notion of shipping the car from the W. Coast to NY and then back to Colorado is retarded and wasteful, but it saved me thousands.

I looked into having mine shipped from Boston to denver and it was $1600 2 months ago. I wound up buying from Cali and it was $600 to ship. I didn't want to drive it and rack up the miles.

    Easy!!!!

Why buy an economical-to-drive car and then not drive it?

You still have to register the car in Colorado. I'm not sure of the $5,000 credit from the State. I'm not really sure how much the tax credit is....I'll know in a few weeks when I register it.

I understand the situation. I live in Missouri and I am driving to New York on Sunday to pick up my prime on Monday. Take the drive. It's a nice time of year.

Hi all, I'm flying out this week to Newark, NY to pick up my PP Advanced. The $2500 Toyota cash rebate expires on 5/1/2017 (NE region only).

Federal tax rebate is $4500 and Colorado gives another $5000 tax credit when you do taxes in 2018. Google 'Prius prime calculator'.

Me and a buddy will be driving and stopping in Chicago, Omaha, then back home to Denver. Will update after purchase. Cheers!

And to answer the original questions. A popular site people use to move cars out of state is a transport broker website called uShip.

I got quotes from truckers NY-CO range $800-1500 but some dealers may not want to sell you the car unless they see you in person.
