What type of snow tires did you buy?

The Prius v Two and Three use 205/60R-16, the Prius v Five uses 215/50R17.

 

I realize you have done this in the past but for proper safety you should not run only 2 snow/winter tires. It is unsafe. Despite not having a problem on your last car I would say it's just a matter of time before something terrible happens. It is a much better idea to use 4 dedicate snow/winter tires.

 

I have Blizzak's for my Prius V. They worked great last winter.

So what's the deal if you have sensors on both sets of wheels, any issues? how long do batteries? last, does sitting hurt them? Can life get bizarre if the extra wheels are sitting in the garage with the car? Oh does anyone know the correct sensor part number for the 2012 v steel wheels? I just grabbed a set of steel camry takeoff wheels and hubcaps to mount snows this winter.

 

When the tires and rims are switched over, the TPMS must be re-programmed/paired with the appropriate set of sensors.

 

If you opt for no TPMS with the snows you'll have zero issue. Well apart from a leeetle warning light.

 

That works for any set of tires, if you don't mind...

 

Yeah the sensors go pretty cheap on flea bay, so may grab a used set....
I run all four snows, best pair on the front but you do need to be ready for oversteer if the backs aren't the best tires. Not everyone can handle that particular "fun". Have gone through about 3 sets of Blizzaks on my 05 and still love them. I run off the remaining tread on the bad pair the following summer. get 2 to 3 winters of flogging per tire pair. The 05 is a rough and tough mail route car.

 

I have used General Altimax arctic winter tires for several seasons. Great tires with great snow traction, and cheaper than Michelin. They are on the factory alloys with factory TPMS (summer tires are on custom rims) Because on Toyotas you have to re-initialize the sensors every time you move wheel locations, and i change my own, i just ignore the tire pressure warning light. I drove for 40+ years before TPMS, and got along fine without government mandated "help"
