I prefer Gen 4 looks over Prime. Anyone else?

Yeah I'm sceptical too, about Prime being less efficient in hybrid mode. Anything to back it up, or just conjecture?

I'm not much liking the styling of either, but it is what it is. My dream: they would have picked Jaguar to emulate, lol.

I have seen the Prime on the road once. It's more pedestrian looking and reminds me a bit of the older generation Prius. Bland and boring but efficient. If you compare the Gen 4 to the Gen 3, there is a lot more efficiency that the Gen 4 has over the Gen 3 making the styling less important. The drag coefficient numbers of the Gen 4 are even more impressive. I like my Prius and have no regrets about buying it. There are some who do not like to credit Japanese engineering as being superior. They don't want to view Toyota as a Japanese built car. If you look at your Vin the "J" stands for built in Japan. It's like paint. If you want to see the best paint job on a car. Drive by a Ferrari dealership. People forget the 5 star insurance institute crash ratings on the Gen 4 Prius. It's the little things people forget about in new cars today.

Greencarreports says the Prime is rated at 55 mpg city, 53 mpg highway, and 54 mpg combined.

Prius is 54/50/52 Eco is 58/53/56.

Prime is better that Prius but lower than Eco in city. Prime is the same as Eco on highway. Prime is higher than Prius but lower than Eco combined.

Since most Prius Lift-backs are non-Eco, to say the Prime MPG is worse is false, IMHO.

I believe I have seen it mentioned elsewhere without mentioning Eco.

There is no way I would give up the rear wiper. That would be like giving up ancient chinese secrets. That is why the Eco was a no go for me.

It's got a face like an angry Manta Ray, but I really like it. This is a design best described as organic ocean life based. Ditto with the original Gen 4 that looks like a crying snake. Ultimately very thoughtful designs that remind you of life, even though they're mechanical devices. It's literally science fiction concept come to life, warts and all.
These are designs that not only grow on you, they aid in the evolution of those who actually invest in, or otherwise become infatuated with them.....pretty much like the "dawn of man" black monolith in 2001: A Space Odyssey (and it's later discovered on the Moon cousin, "Tycho Magnetic Anomaly One" a.k.a. TMA-1).

Love it or hate it, methinks the very fact that we're albeit, lightheartedly, discussing the Gen 4 and Prime's front and rear unusual (by allegedly normal standards) design, means it is definitely having THAT "evolutionary effect" upon us.

Fortunately, this isn't the dawn of time, so we all won't be re-enacting that famous "Dawn of Man" awakening scene from 2001; ergo, we won't be whacking dried old bones over each other's heads, and squabbling over the rights to drink from a dirty pond

p.s. Methinks Toyota missed a great chance to create an advert for the Prius Prime, based on the "Dawn of Man" scene from 2001: A Space Odyssey......something humorous, involving Stone Age motorists coming across a Prime Advanced in a Trailer Park or something, and having an "awakening"......

I have yet to see a Prius prime in the wild, on the road. And I live in Prius country (Oakland Berkeley). I don't think the prime is selling.

I can stand the rear tail lights of the gen 4. The prime looks much better in the rear.

I hate the looks of the H2 powered Mirai, but I love the technology. It's a shame the thing costs so much and the H2 infrastructure is poor or I may have ordered one.

Yes in limited numbers, there were 12 cars available last year and 15 this year. Very pricey though, £66,000 (GBP)

12 were licenced (VED) on the road in the UK last year and 9 in 2015.

I really like desing of Prime, more than my Gen 4, shame where i live Prime will arrive maybe next year. Here we are very newbies with hybrids so Plug-in almost does not exist.

I love the design of my Prius Four, especially the rear- it's really grown on me. I do prefer the looks of the Gen 4, but love the Mirai-like headlights of the Prime. That said, with all the Prius haters out there, I've gotten nothing but positive feedback on the looks of my new car, especially after I detail it. IMG_1963.JPG

Headlights on the Prime, yes I agree. Get rid of that black grill though.

I like the Prius 4 but love the Prime. To my eyes it looks more chunky and I prefer the simpler front end.

However, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Reading this thread from 1st to last post, I thought it really interesting. The thread is posing an aesthetic question which, at the end of the day, comes down to personal taste. The readers of this particular site and contributors to the thread likely represent a more focused, pre-filtered market/audience than the general public. Within that subset, opinions are grouped all over the place; they're all valid. And that's not even bringing the "form vs. function" element into the question, that of ultimate efficiency vs. aesthetic appeal a.k.a. styling.

It pretty much shows how difficult it is to design a car that pleases everyone, even to a group that already admires them (for whatever reasons or degree). I think Toyota did a pretty good job with the Gen 4.
