If anyone has any advice or solutions to my issue, I would be grateful for the assistance. I already notified my dealer, but they haven't sent a reply back:

While cleaning up my Prius Prime today, I noticed that some of the interior paint/finish coming off of the black frame (?) that surrounds the display on the dashboard and the frame around the 11.6 inch display. Instead of a black finish, it is showing a silver color.

Photo 1: Green boxed area, how the finish is suppose to look like. Red boxed area, the silver is showing through the black paint/finish.

Photo 2: Red boxed area, the finish is coming off on the passenger side of the dashboard.

Photo 3: Red boxed area, a view from the outside looking down.

Photo 4: Red boxed area, Corner of the finished area showing silver.

Also has anyone else encounter this problem?

What are you cleaning your dash trim with?

I thought something like that would be solid colour. That's not good, especially when underlying plastic is a contrasting colour. I've run into that on previous cars myself, like our 06 civic's shifter bezel: silver paint on black plastic.

That is not good. Let us know what the dealer says.

Actually nothing. I wanted to get those Meguiar's wipes for the dashboard, but I didn't get a chance to buy them yet. Instead I use a swifter (duster) to clean up the lint.

I might have used a lint free cloth a handfull of times to wipe the dash, but I didn't do any harsh scrubing.

Thanks for a the replies and concern.

I managed to contact the dealer and will set up an appointment with their service department to take a look at the problem.

    I will update this thread.

    Update as of 3/29/17
I went to the dealership today (Servco Toyota), they took a look at it and considered it "discoloration" and believe it might be a manufacture defect.

So they ordered the parts for me (trim) and will let me know when the parts arrive so they can do the repair.

I asked the service technician if he ever encountered a problem like this before. He stated that since the car is so new, these cars haven't come in for service yet.

Will continue to update this thread.

Added another shot of the "discoloration" on my dashboard trimming.

Is it possible that it came from the factory like this and that you just didn't notice it until you were cleaning the interior? From your camera angles it looks like you wouldn't easily see it while sitting in the drivers seat.

    Could be.

I agree that I didn't notice it until now (a few months after buying my Prime). When I sit in the drivers seat, I can barely see the discoloration as the silver looks like glare off the dashboard.

Abrasive chems will zap any finish. Drive thru washes are notorious...armor all should be called armor off...Use water and microfiber instead.

But should there even BE a finish, and an underlying, different coloured base plastic? Seems to me decent quality plastic dash material is same colour right through, not painted on: that's just asking for trouble.
