Since the battery is NOT covered (it's in the list of exclusions) under the platinum extended warranty, what is the dealer warranty of the battery? I've heard 8 yrs. (10 in Calif). Is that right? And how many miles is that good for? Thanks
I just asked the Toyota Walnut Creek (California) dealer about the battery warranty and he said it was 8 years, 100K mi. Other PriusChat members have said it's 10 years, 150K mi... How do I find documentation? Thanks...

california emissions states: 10 years/150k the rest of us: 8 years/100k this is for the hybrid battery and powertrain- no little 12v battery is expected to last that long!
Just to be a pedantic PITA: 1. This info is in your Prius' owners' manual (or maybe it's in the maintenance guide?). Anyway, you should read both of them. 2. It's Toyota's warranty, not "the dealer's" warranty. Any Toyota dealer will provide warranty service.

the prius has a dinky motorcycle battery, not one of the standard car batteries. it'll die much sooner. the starter battery is a standard expected-to-wear-out part.
Given that the battery warranty is 10/150k in CA and 8/100k in the rest of the US, does the specific warranty follow the car when re-registered in another state? It seems to me that the warranty at time/point of initial purchase would be applicable. This could be significant when buying or selling a used Prius a few years from now.

Many cars will say right on the original window sticker if the car is CA compliant. Some manufacturers make all US bound cars to CA spec, while others don't. I'm not sure about Toyota's policy, but it should say somewhere CA compliant in some manner.
