Bought my 2016 Prius three back in Feb 2016. It current has about 17k miles and drive is good. ...cheap on gas and the inside is relatively nice. I didn't think much of it other than many other drivers now tend to cut me off. Today I saw the same generation (different color -- white) Prius going in the same direction so I decided to pull up behind it. Then I thought to myself...damn it's so ugly!!! Really sucks to be living on the bottom half...the have-nots.. That's all.
I think instead to live in the top half. Those who have. Those who have a truly modern car, that is different than all other dinosaurs out there, trying or pretending to save fuel and pollute less, and that are stuck in a car architecture that is from the 19th century. I bow only to Tesla, i3, i8, Leaf etc. We are on the same upper level. The rest for me is history. Ugly and undifferentiated.
But practical. Besides, a well designed hybrid does compete with your preferred list (all pure EVs) in overall energy efficiency. JeffD
Lol. Just joking around guys. No reason to take it serious on thoughtless comments. I was bored at work and thought I would stir up some craps ....hehehe
If you're a dude...bro, buddy pal, friend. Let me tell you a story. I come from an Accord 6 speed, Dodge Neon SRT-4, 06 Pontiac GTO, Blown Acura CLS6, Twin Turbo RX-7...and now a proud, distinguished member of the 2017 Prius Family. BUT...Put. The. Coffee. Down! Ownership of a Prius...doesn't endow you with an esteemed superiority of intellectual supremacy over others that drive archaic pieces of prehistoric sh*t. People like what they drive and drive what they like. Preference doesn't (automatically) presume to tell us about an individual. Comments that DO purport to do so are quite asinine. I'm happy about my purchase but I don't think I'm holier than thou simply because of it. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Don't worry, it's mutual. A few of us old timers in the 3rd gen think the same as you but opposite. Does the emperor really not know he's naked? The current Prius is one fugly car and that's saying a lot as the 3rd gen isn't much of a looker. I.m bored too. Can't sleep.
There are not more than a half dozen good looking current year cars right now, imho. And there are a TON of them uglier than any Prius. It ain't a car show winner, but Forrest's mama was right. Beauty is as beauty does. I'm pretty sure she was an engineer. If you want butt jewelry, get a Harley and have it chopped.
What puzzles me: Toyota seems to have thrown a LOT of effort into the look of this car, and yet opinions on the outcome are so split. Maybe it's a hit in Japan, and they don't care other'n that? There's more than a few fourth gen owners saying, I don't care about the looks, I like it's performance. Guess I'd be in that camp if we did trade, but right now that's not in the cards. I think there's an industry-wide "irrational exuberance" in the automotive design departments right now. Honda Civic Type R is another example: excessive/pointless design "features" abound, as you walk around the car. What speaks to me is an effective and efficient design, with practical considerations for ease and low cost maintenance and repair. But I guess I'm not the typical "focus group".
There have been so many cars deemed "odd" looking over the years, which ended up being good sellers - in some cases (the "shovel-nosed" Corona for instance - was widely copied - by VOLVO 12 yrs later and nowdays, ever car has a sloped back front: TOYOTA didn't get stuck in a rut like VW - who kept the Beetle for over ½ a century with styling which, while updated, didn't change in essence, and now the GOLF is so boring - you can clearly see the 1974 origin in today's car. A new AUDI - you can only tell by new numberplates (or if you've got an old AUDI, get new numberplates and neighbours think you've got a new car.
