The Dunlops have done very well. I've had to play with pressures a bit to get the car to rotate the way I'd like. My closest competition in class is using the Bridgestone RE -71R'S which are a better rated tire and I'm still keeping up or beating him. I'm very happy with my current setup. 2 events to go this year!

Sorry if I've accidentally scrolled past the info, but are you defeating you traction/skid control in anyway?

Sorry for the long overdue response. Yes, I put the car in inspection mode while on course.

Apart from stopping the fun police when the wheels spin in the slightest with the tilt of the steering wheel. In what way does inspection mode change the power delivery and power through corners?

It only turns off traction control and stability control. Power delivery is no different.

Hmm, what I should explain is that with my experience, full throttle is not smooth each time, mostly when turning but also on the straight. There's always a shudder or brief pauses in the acceleration, and while it mostly does the TC flight doesn't flash all the time. All that torque and TC makes for some embarrassing maneuvers. Ah well :p .

There is a brief pause due to the ECM taking it's oh so sweet time to give you WOT and, in turn, the engine revving to meet demand. Likewise, when not in inspection (or B mode for that matter) there's the chance the engine may be off, especially if you've just slowed for a turn, then you'll have a delay when getting back on throttle due to the engine firing back up.

    Update!!!!!

Competed in my first event of the year yesterday. Completely new setup on the car. Koni FSD's, 225/50/16 Bridgestone RE-71R's, wrapped around a set of Enkei wheels. Having to learn how to drive the car all over again. COMPLETELY changed the handling from last season. Did manage to get withing .621 seconds of the first place car in class (Veloster Turbo) and 15th out of 79 drivers (Pax time). Next event is in 2 weeks.

Ok....how do you turn off traction and abs? Do I need special scan tools or can this be done on the fly?

I too wana take my prius to a track and a autox event just for fun and definitely need these turned off at ease.

There are diagnostic modes for up on the rack. On the pavement, they are a way to destroy a transaxle.

There are times in maintenance when you need to car to behave oddly. (You can force it not to shut off at idle) these are not modes intended to be drivable, only for the mechanic to do service. An OBDII tool can set these modes, but the traction control is there to protect the transaxle. (A Prius has no clutch, the jerks of loss of traction will be sent to the transaxle and engine)

So long as you never try to make a warranty claim, the risk is just yours.

It has been 3 years doing this hack. Maybe you overestimated the pure power of the Prius (Sarcasm)

Btw - Why is there a folded ladder in your back seat from your Avatar?

Before I retired last August, I was the IT Department for a local Mental Health organization. (They were MY client, honest) Region One Mental Health Center :: Home

So the back of My Prius needed a 17 foot extension ladder, 8 foot step ladder, amazon.com/dp/B0000VYDHK Keyboards and Mice and Power supplies, Routers, modems and Switches and cabling. It was very tight in the Gen 2, but more relaxed in the v.

I've used inspection mode at every event in every Prius I've ever owned. Also use it in winter when conditions are really bad. Never had an issue. Not saying it isn't possible TO have an issue but I personally haven't. It is, as stated, use at your own risk.

So.......about that how to turn off traction control thing?

    Show me how please!

I removed abs fuse before to turn off TCS/ABS and it worked got me out of stuck conditions in heavy snow but the hybrid battery basically shuts down it doesn't charge and doesn't assist in power either.
But it was the only way I could drive in heavy snow.

Can you list or is there an existing list of your suspension modifications? Did these modifications move you out of the "stock" class? Thanks!

    1. Set parking brake.
    2. Press START button 2 times WITHOUT putting your foot on the brake.
    3. Press accelerator to the floor 2 times while in PARK.
    4. Press accelerator to the floor 2 times while in NEUTRAL.
    5. Press accelerator to the floor 2 times while in PARK.
    6. Press brake pedal and press START button.
Do the above within 60 seconds and your display should say you are in "Maintenance Mode."

Ahh well thank you very much!

Now will maint mode turn off the hybrid battery/assist? Or this only turns off traction/abs and does not effect anything else?

Stock or what is now referred to as Street class in SCCA Solo allows very few modifications. What I have done to the car basically maxes it out in class. Now if I add any additional braces or lowering springs it changes the class. So mine only has the Koni FSD's, Hawk front brake pads, K&N drop in filter, Rav4 front sway bar, and I swap over to the Bridgestone RE -71R'S when I arrive at the events.

BTW, if anyone would like to follow my hybrid motorsport exploits I have an Instagram page setup just for that........@paulsextonracing

Nope it merely disables VSC and TRAC. Plus the engine will run constantly instead of cycling on and off like normal. As soon as the ignition is cycled off the back on it returns to normal operation.
