I prefer Gen 4 looks over Prime. Anyone else?

I certainly don't mind the Prime - it's sleek! I was just trying to say that all of the reviewers seem to prefer the Prime and I am not sure I do.

Certainly not trying to bash your choice - love the color as well.

I dont like the look of the gen 4 prius exterior at all. Gen 3 and Gen 2 look better.

We are not forcing you to get one either. Isn't a free country grand?

Toyota Lexus is also being quite liberal and crazy with their cars lately so I don't see them going back to the more tame Gen 3 look anytime soon.

It's funny how people like or not like different designs. Those with G4s should be "proud" to drive one as the front looks like a Lexus. Without the Lexus cost. ;)
I don't really like the front of the Lexus or G4, but then I don't own one and if I was considering buying one the look wouldn't change my mind. I bought Pearl for the fuel economy and technology, and ditto with Pearl S. It would be the same if I bought a G4 or a Prime.

Looking at the current Lexus line with the huge black front, that could be an insult.

This just shows how much subjectivity there is - I LOVE the new Lexus look. RX Hybrid is my dream.

LEXUS CT-200h was on my shortlist - loved the overall profile, the rear was quite conventional. Nicer to drive in a way - you could feel and hear the luxury, a bit quieter and smoother. On the base model with narrower tyres. The front view was quite awful, though, particularly in light colours. But it was the bootspace which put me off.

Though pricing wasn't really good - base model was actually cheaper than Gen4 PRIUS, but if you wanted RADAR Cruise, it was the old tech Gen 3 PRIUS type, and was only available on a model $20,000 dearer.

I remember when the sketches first leaked (y'all remember, the amazingly close to actual Gen4 in light green and the then-unnamed Prime in blue?), I had trouble believing the blue car was the plug-in, because to my eye it seemed more conventional. I definitely preferred the Klingon Imperial headlamps of the green hybrid - they just seemed edgier, and the entire front-end more recognizably Prius-like. If you line up front-ends from Gen1 to Gen4, the Gen4 really does look like the next step in the evolution - the Prime is off on another tangent.

Once the cars were delivered in final form, I still preferred the Gen4 from just about every angle where they differ, though I don't dislike the Prime. The worst part of the Gen4 design to my eye is that random spray of lines and planes in the rear quarter profile "floating" roof, and the Prime shares it, for good or ill. The Prime's sagging hatch glass and lipstick-kiss rear lighting does nothing for me, while I really like the distinctive neon "brackets" of the Gen4's rear lights.

But overall, I don't find either car as hideous as many car writers seem to, and while utility may have been slightly compromised with this generation (Gen4 ingress/egress is merely average, a strong suit of the Gen2 we had for over a decade), it's still a functional and space efficient design, only now accompanied with more visual flash and gingerbread. Yes, those visual gewgaws are a bit hit or miss, but considering how the uber-functional Gen2's clean uncluttered lines were met with derision for being weirdly bland, it was no bad thing to deliver a car that was at least not boring.

So yes, I like the Gen4 styling a bit better, but I don't find the Prime off-putting; starting with a clean sheet of paper today the Prime is probably the one I'd buy.

The U.S. Prius Two does come with a spare. Only the Eco version doesn't, for obvious weight saving reasons. Given its max-MPG mission, a spare would make no sense on the Eco.

I know your answer is well meant, but think you'll find that's what ProdigyPlace meant, he got a 2 because he needed a spare wheel. If you glance at his profile it shows it there, Central Virginia, 2017 Prius, two. (y)

Exactly. in the US all 2017 Gen 4 Prius have the TSS-P safety features. For 2016, I would have needed to get a Trim Three with an optional package for much more money than my 2017 Trim Two. I do wish the seats were more comfortable for long drives, though.

Yes, sorry I completely misunderstood your earlier comment. I agree, if you value TSS-P but fancy add-ons not so much, the 2017 lineup offers much better value. It would have saved us the cost of the ATP (sunroof and HUD being of little interest to us), though we would have gone for a Three anyway (the missus likes her sat radio and I preferred the Three interior).

That's fair enough. I did not look closely at the Three interior.
If the seats are more comfortable that a Two I might have taken another look. I think the Three has the same cloth seats as the Two, though (structurally speaking).

I looked at both the Prius and the Prius Prime and chose to go with a Prius Two Eco. The Prime does not look better than the Prius Liftback due primarily to the goofy "angry bird" / fish mouth front end. In addition the Prime has at least an extra 5" overhang on the back end which is a big minus on looks from a side view. The Prime is heavier, slower, smaller cargo volume, and has poorer fuel mileage in non EV mode than a two Eco.

    That's interesting, the Gen 3 plug-in had a better non-EV mpg.
