I'm a new owner of a Prius C 2013. I've had the car less than a week & today this problem has reoccurred 4 or 5 times. When I turn the key I get my welcome I'm on bubbles & the dash board lights ( I attached a picture ) all stay on. When I go to put into reverse the dash tells me to put the car in P position to start. I turn the car off & I get the "see you" & it turns off. I start it again & it starts fine, sometimes taking 2 or 3 attempts before it starts normally. Sorry if I'm wordy I'm new to this forum also. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Your foot wasnt all the way on the brake when you turned the key. This is normal, you just have to have your foot on the brake then turn

Mine has the push-button start, but I have had the same thing happen. Coincidentally, I've also had it about a week.

I've found that if I shift into reverse too soon after hitting start, even with my foot on the brake, it will refuse to start.

    So the sequence is this:

    Foot on brake.
    Start car.
Wait for car to finish booting up. This only takes a couple of seconds, but it's definitely more than we're used to with a normal car.
    Shift into reverse or drive.
    Go.

I have the 2015 Prius c two. I never have to start the car with my foot on the brake pedal. I suggest reading the owners manual for the proper starting procedure for your car.

you can't start a prius without your foot on the brake. any car for that matter, it's a required safety interlock.

From what I've seen in the manual, it's not ready to go until it says "Ready" on the dash. Same with my previous 2008 Prius.

The system took far longer to get to READY on older models of the Prius.

On the C it's really quick - but it's still possible to start the car and shift to drive before it's READY if you're too fast.

Yeah my last Prius really taught me to chill out, put on my seatbelt, check mirrors, drink a cup of coffee before putting it in R or D :D

When I turn mine on, I wait till the dash has completed its boot up and wait until the gas engine has started and ran for 30 seconds before placing in drive. Just checked, I can turn the car on without foot on brake.

THIS. Happens to me all the time.....when I get in a hurry.
Step on the brake; WAIT for the green key symbol on the dash, then push the button.

I haven't had this issue with my Prius C but I also have an actual key, it's much easier to remember than the FOB

I get that message when I leave the door open and shift. It seemed random at first , sometimes restarting worked. Sometimes it took multiple tries. It all depended upon the door. I never connected the door until I read about it on this forum.
