i drove a mighty 6000 mile trip and really struggled with the voice recognition system. So, once I settled in back home, I sat in car for about an hour and gave the system my undivided attention. On the trip, I tried to follow the prompts that the navigation lady suggested. Let's say I was 20 miles from our motel and I used the "Find a POI" path to find the motel by name. It never worked. If you say "Motel", it gives you the nearest 5 with no command for next page of motels. However, after reading the manual and listening to the built-in tutorials, I took a different tack. "Navigation," then "Holiday Inn" got me the five nearest Holiday Inns.

I wonder if it will work like that for Rest Areas? I will have to try that next time I get a chance. Seems Rest Areas don't do well with this Nav unit for me.

There's not much I don't like about this car, but the voice recognition is a total fail.

When pretty much every smartphone has a respectable voice recognition system (Android or Apple), why can't Toyota find a vendor with a good one? Unless they are contractually locked in to their current vendors with their lame products.
