So what am I supposed to do?

This was my first charge of the Prime while I slept.

Neither did I but you can activate your promotion by entering the vehicle VIN as a promo code when you set up your chargepoint account

I wasn't given a card. Didn't have one in the glove compartment. You just need your vin to sign up and they will mail you a card as well!

You can use the app to find a charge point spot and pay through your phone with the free $100 FYI

OK, you folks will hate me for my pickiness now, but, in the UK at least, "complimentary" spelled with an "i" - means saying something to someone that "pays them a compliment", such as, "Hey, you look good in that hat!".

The word that means "added in", often for free, is spelled "complementary" with an "e", and in my mind it is to do with things like "a full complement of extras" and other such expressions.

Having said that, hardly anyone in the UK seems to know this either! Just very occasionally, I am impressed to see someone get it right.

It amuses me, just slightly, when I read of what folk here call "Complimentary Therapies",[should of course be complementary], and imagine spending an hour being told that I am good looking, intelligent, have good taste, am not the least bit picky or tiresome etc etc. Perhaps I should go into business doing that, maybe it could catch on??

Same here when I got mine on Jan 24th. So I was told to go to the link on the Toyota owners site and follow it to "register" your CP card, if you don't have the card, they will mail one to you for free.

Now for me, I was already a CP customer since I have a LEAF. There is a public charging site by the movie theatre and also in a downtown shopping area. So I just plug in there and get a full battery in 2 hours. The secret here is you DON'T have to use the card with this car so if you have another EV, you can use the credit in the CP account for charging that car! All CP does is load 100 dollars unto your account. You can use it with any cards you have.

If you have a CP account already, just go to the dashboard and enter the VIN for your prime as a "Coupon code" and 100 dollars will be magically loaded unto your CP account. No new cards required!

AHHH, so the whole VIN is used as the promotion code ... not the "7 digits". It works but in my case, expires in May 2017.

Guess I'll have to go on a 'road trip' to use them. We had some ChargePoint EVSE at the local BWM dealer but they were free to use. Of course that may change . . .

I think that's how its meant to work, mine does as well, expires 100 days from activation. I can't realistically see getting that much use out of it. Quite a few of the local places where I might want to spend an hour or two have free charging as it is.

This is the e-mail notice that showed up:

    Hi Robert,

Thanks for enrolling in the Toyota Complimentary Charging program. We hope you'll be exploring all the ChargePoint stations in your area and out on the road.

To help you track your charging, we added a separate Toyota Complimentary Charging balance to your account. That balance is now $100.0 .

Your Toyota Complimentary Charging balance will expire in 76 days and has no cash value. The 100 days of complimentory charging started 30 days after your purchase date. See full terms and conditions here.

    Drive happier

Just go to chargepoint, set up an account and use your vehicle VIN as a promo code. That will give you the $100 and they will mail you a chargepoint card which won't take long.

Hello, would anyone like my card FOR FREE? Stupid service -- no actual location in my zip code and only one within 50 miles of my home at, wait for it, THE BMW DEALERSHIP!! Hilarious. I have 35 days left and never have been able to use it.

Your can turn on a Chargepoint charger with the Chargepoint smartphone app (Apple, Android). This is Internet based, not requiring NFC. You can also call the phone number on the charger and a human operator can verify your account (or verify that the charger is free) and turn on the charger.

I already have a CP card. I logged on the Chargepoint web site, went to the Account Details page, and entered the VIN in the Promotion" box. The $100 was added to my account balance, with the expiration date noted.

How do you use that app to activate the charger? More to-the-point, how convenient is it to do so? I'd guess that it would be hard to beat the convenience of an RFID dongle...

If your smartphone does have NFC, can it also activate it as conveniently as the RFID dongle?

When you open the app, it knows from GPS which chargers you are near. The chargers have an ID number on them, and you select in the app the charger you want to use. Then just click "charge now" (I don't recall the exact wording), and in a few seconds, the handle on the charger will unlock, and you plug it in to the car. Not quite as fast as using the NFC card, but still pretty simple. When I hold my NFC-enabled phone up to the charger, it activated Android Pay (I assume it would pop up Apple Pay on iPhones) as if it were a NFC-capable point-of-sale terminal. It then just uses the credit card associated with your Android/Apple Pay, which will work fine, but won't update the stats on your Chargepoint account.

Thanks. My car didn't have a charge card and I've been after my dealer for months to mail me one. Can't really use it anyway though.
