actually it'd be like 60k. i'd like to see you back up these 20 years, 11 years, 150k+ mile numbers.

oh and hey, how much money do you make back on an automatic transmission? or 4wd?

and i might mention while i'm at it that while the average car can cost thousands to replace a popped tranny, the prius has a planetary gearset, no grinding gears, that will not wear out after 100k like certain other cars.

Not true at all. The "normal" car I was considering was a 2005 Camry as they are both mid-sized cars. Loaded, MSRP, it was somewhat more expensive than a loaded Prius. I also got the perk of waived 6% sales tax (worth about $1,600) and a $2,000 federal tax deduction (worth about $500) that wouldn't have been available to me had I purchased the Camry.

So I'm buying new again. Still get the sales tax waived, but this time, I get a full $3,160 federal tax CREDIT (worth about, oh, $3,150  )

Theres some cars out there with 600,000 miles....... ive seen ford rangers running great with the original motor, (no rebuild, trans or engine) with 400,000 in real life.

Planetary gears are on all auto transmissions. Its really nothing new at all.

Little you know about hybrids, particularly the design of the HSD system. It LOVES hills!

BTW, I still have my truck for 4x4 truck hauling and such. It's lucky if it gets used a couple times a month now. Do you haul and tow on a daily basis?

Hmmmm. "Beat" seeming to be the operative word here.

No thanks, I've driven nothing but brand new vehicles as first owner for the past 25 years averaging about 3 years each.

the prius is around $25k to $30k a "normal" car can cost more than that and not pay for itself at all. Even if the prius didn't save mone y(it does though) at least it's trying where a "normal" car would depreciate in value and still drink gas.

and ill be saving more money, even with a 17-22mpg truck.

BTW it snows alot up here during winter, so thats why a 4x4 is almost nessesary.

Yeah, that is pretty good--I mean, getting paid $800 to take the truck. But do your parents know you are out playing with grownups? My kid is pretty delusional about what he'll get paid if and when he gets around to getting a job. In the meantime, he drives a car that he was given, and, like you, thinks it is just the greatest thing since, well, since Hooters, I guess...But then, boys do love their, um, toys, don't they? And logic rarely has anything to do with it.

Priusguy, sadly, I think you're wasting your breath. Even as a relative rookie to PC (and for that matter, web forums in general), it strikes me how easily some get drawn into going toe-to-toe with them. Folks obviously don't realize what a waste of time and bandwidth it is.

    Thanks for trying, though!

we don't have that ridiculous series of hydraulic crap to do the shifting. have you ever actually seen the inside of an automatic transmission? a straight-up planetary set is about a billion times less complex.

and apparently you're not familiar with the real world, because $25k is a fantastic price for a quality new car. don't worry, time will teach you many things.

Used cars can break easier, have less features, and aren't under warranty. I'm no Prius fan either but these people have you beat, pick your battles. I paid $4000 USD for my Rx-7. IT only gets 17/24mpg and would probably still cost less car price included for the next 10 years compaired to a Prius even at this mileage and it's much faster but that's besides the point. MY car is horrible for the environment which is one reason a Prius owner wouldn't get it and that's enough reason for them. Most used cars are bad for the environment not just mine. Who wants a used mid 90s Geo, Accord, Camry, Escort, or Corolla over a well equipped 2006 that gets 50+MP/G?

Becuase the 90's car costs 3000-5000 and the gay-brid costs 25-30,000

BTW- the hyunda accent is 8,000 NEW!!!!! gets around 30-35mpg. Maybe 40 im not sure.

no car is $8000 new. The "gay-brid" costs about as much as any other car with the same options then you get the 10,000 mile warranty and the tax credit. This sounds like you've stoppe dlistening to reasoning entirely and are just going off of a thought in your head and have premade up your mind and will refuse to accept it unless you see it on TV. I hate when you throw in your age of 17 and people assume us kids are dumbasses. I'm a 16 year old and I'd appreciate it if you didn't give us such a bad name. If you refuse to get along with Prius owners then why did you join the site? You are immaturely wasting your time.

To the die hard muscle car and anti-hybrid guys, here is the future:

Toyota's Volta's 408-hp Hybrid Synergy Drive® (a 3.3-liter V6 with an electric motor for each axle) not only delivers 435 miles on a 13.7-gallon tank, but 0-60 acceleration in a mere four seconds. (http://www.toyota.com/vehicles/future/volta.html)

32 MPG is not bad since most of those types of cars get about 10 MPG.

yeah I know - "Don't feed the trolls" but good for boredom.

yeah I've seent hat and still don't like hybrids due to the fact that that'll cost a fortune.
