At the local KIA dealer Tues. They had one on the show room floor.
Was quite impressed. All the bells and whistles for about 30K.
It is also HOV lane qualified.

Yeah it's very reasonably priced! The FE version (base model) starts at $23k!

Kind of a frustrating review because he keeps changing what he is comparing the vehicle to, and he himself doesn't even seem to know exactly how he wants to classify the vehicle. It's an apple, it's an orange, it's a tangerine, or a box of Skittles.

Like so many competitors to The Prius in the past, we get the screaming headline 50 mpg, followed by detailed disclosure that seems to suggest,- most often....not really. Even though for most trim levels the difference between 50 mpg and 49 seems so trivial as to not even be mention worthy.

I like the idea of the product. I think I'd like it better if it offered 50 mpg and was AWD.
    But it's an interesting product.
I like some of the available options but it seems the higher trim really impacts mileage.

If The Prius styling has gone "Sporty" this offering by KIA looks far more conservative, but I would also say almost instantly dated. I think that vehicle would look at home on a Dealer Lot in 2010....
But if you think some styling has got out of hand? This could be a very non-threatening look. Maybe a "Back to The Future" styling choice?

I applaud KIA for coming out with this product. It's really an interesting product.
I look forward to hearing more about it in the real world.

How does it qualify for HOV access? It is just a hybrid. We might see a plug in down the line, but not now.

I don't see the Niro as a direct Prius competitor; that's the Ioniq. As a crossover/tall wagon, the C-max would be closer, but being a crossover might make it more appealing to the masses than the Prius in this market. Kia knows it should have had AWD, and it will likely get it for 2018.

Larger wheels brings down the fuel economy in the Prius too, and other cars for that matter. The Niro isn't the only model in which Kia is getting window sticker MPG numbers for the different trims, and they should be applauded for doing so.

Niro is cheaper than a prius touring and has many more safety features.
It is qualified for the HOV lane in New York.

I looked at one on Saturday, but didn't drive it. I was really impressed. It looks great, has a higher seating position than the Prius (I like that), has an interior that feels roomier, all of the interior materials felt top-notch...all in all, seems like a very well executed car.

Obviously a drive would be necessary, as would reliability & MPG data, but based on initial impressions, I'd trade some of the Prius' MPG for the higher seating position and roomier feel of the Niro. But not for a while yet....gotta get my money's worth out of the Prius first!

The first thought I had when I saw the Niro is that it is a great 'stealth hybrid'. In fact, this seems to be what Kia is going for...portraying it as the 'anti-Prius', etc...

Just bought one last night. Traded my 2012 Prius (2). Like the higher seating, Plenty of room for tall fat guys.
Got the EX model, MSRP $26,855. rated at 49mpg according to sticker, will be evaluating once broken in only have 13 miles on it now.
    Like higher ground clearance.

Traded in my 2012 prius 2.They gave average trade value according to KBB.
Also Veterans discount of $500, plus $900 for credit application. Knocked off $748 Doc fee.
Plus -- Smog tests for life; car washes for life; Nitrogen fills for life; Tinted windows; Loaner car if any service takes over 3 hours.
Was ok deal.. Had to wait 2 weeks for it to get off boat.
Just spent last 2 hours reprogramming all the computer stuff the way I like it.
It also comes with Android Auto which is far superior than that shitty Prius Navi system.
