Hi all My 2010 Prius was parked without being driven for 3 weeks. Now when I push the power button the dash lights up but the ready light stays off and the car won't shift to drive. Can someone help me figure this out? Thanks
The 12 volt battery needs a jumpstart (not the hybrid battery). Instructions begin on p 543 of the Prius 2010 Manual. Your dash lights up because the 12 volt battery is not completely discharged --but enough that it doesn't have enough power to start the car.
Thanks everyone. Like you guys said it was a dead 12v battery. I initially tried to jump start the car using the leads in the front engine compartment fuse box, but that did not work. Had to open the hatch and jump the actual battery in the back. That solved the issue. Thanks again.
Just curious, did you try flipping the jumper cable clamp around on the positive terminal in the fuse box? Only one side of the fuse box terminal is metal, and some jumper cables only have one side of the clamp that is connected to the cable so you might not have had metal to conductor contact. Also need to make sure the negative under the hood is connected to a good grounded bolt.
I made sure of all that. Flipped up the clamp and made sure there was metal to metal contact at both terminals. Used the bolt that's behind the fuse box as well as the metal arm that holds the hood open as ground terminal contacts, and yet no dice. Used the same battery and cables on the 12v battery itself and got it to work on the first try. Then drove around for 15 mins just to ensure battery for charged up, as a precaution.
Strange that the fuse box terminal didn't work especially since the Prius does not take all that much power to jump start like a conventional does.
