We did buy a 2015. There were several things we didn't like about the 2016 including the lack of a spare tire which is a big issue for me.

Right. For those who don't care about having a spare fine. For those, like me, who won't buy a car without one at least make it an option and make sure the space is still designed into the car for the spare and tools.

Right. But I'm talking about the other models that don't come with a spare. At least Toyota could leave the space for the spare, still claim the mpg increase, and give us a $200-300 option to buy the spare and tools.

You could if you want to. @kithmo did that on his UK spec Prius. He swapped out the foam pieces and added a spare tire.

You only need your car towed if the tire is shredded. Most flats I've had are the leak type that hold air long enough to get somewhere. Keep in mind the eco has a 12v inflator.

I would get the eco. If the spare is a must have then take it up a notch to the three. You won't regret that either.

I had a few flats and I was traveling more than 100 miles from home, I would have been stranded if I did not have a spare.
Do you think a spare tire is needed? Definitely!

I purchased a new Eco two months ago. I haven't had a flat tire on ANY car since I don't remember when. Nevertheless I plan to buy a used spare to leave at home, just in case. Also, I plan to take the spare with me if I go on any long trips. As for the rear window wiper, I can't see a use for it. BTW, after 2500 miles I am getting well over 60 mpg for mostly in town interstate driving at 60 mph or below.

The 2017 Prius has the spare along with many safety features that were unavailable on the 2016 Two and Eco. That helped me choose a 2017 Two.
