With 3 different engines at the time I selected. I didn't try to cherry pick, just took the '17 as the most likely one to be the current model. If only we could force some standardization but I guess folks get to pick their own description from a generic list.

I don't see Ioniq having any bearing on those numbers.
On Cars.com, 2016 Fusion hybrids are listed at nearly $8000 off, and 2017s nearly $7000. They need help to move with low gas prices, and Ford needs to move them to counter the F150s they sell on CAFE. From Hyundai's perspective, it is a Sonata hybrid competitor, not an Ioniq one.
The Prius is losing sales to the Prime.
The US Ioniq deletes the 12 volt battery, and likely has the software optimized after collecting data from cars sold in Asia and Europe.

Don't know how that European site works, but Fuelly won't publicly display a car until it has three fill ups in the system. This keeps first fill up noise from skewing the public results.

"European site" spritmonitor shows by default only cars with at least 1500 km, that would be at least 2 fill ups.

Niro and C-HR are very close in MPG on that site, both cars started to sell in winter, Niro a little earlier.

i guess prices don't mean much without stacking up standard equipment for comparison, and ultimately, a road test.

I think what bisco was getting at is that Toyota added the (TSS-P) safety package as standard on ALL 2017 Prius models. That is a big step up for the lower level trims.

Edit: I did some snooping and it looks like the similar set of functionality on the Ioniq is listed as 'optional...so probably a good move by Toyota?

Calm my friend. All will be forgiven when the Monroney sticker cars show up.

For example, I did not realize the local Volt lacked dynamic cruise control until I saw the Monroney sticker. Considering how well predictions on sales worked out and only 8 days to March, we can wait.

Yep - if Bisco wanted to mess with you, he'd simply set a little brown paper lunch sack on your porch & set it on fire - then ring your door bell so you could stomp it out, & get poo all over your shoe.

Details for the Plug-in model are not yet available since it doesn't go on sale until late this year.

Looks like Hyundai is low-balling it on the Blue trim - it doesn't have any advanced safety equipment.

In fact, it looks like you have to go all the way up to the Ioniq SEL with tech package for an apples-to-apples comparison now that ALL 2017 Prius trim levels have the TSS-P package as standard equipment.

Seems like a wise move indeed by Toyota...or am I not seeing it correctly?

I understand the "First Drive" articles can now be published. Still waiting on a Monroney sticker but I notice dynamic cruise control still requires an optional "Tech Package." Understand I turned down the 2016 Prius because the Level Two ECO did not have it and the Level Three with TSS-P (Tech package equivalent) had a moon roof instead of maximum MPG.

toyota took some time to get to safety equip standard. maybe hyundai will catch on at some point. but i suppose there will be those willing to pass it up for savings.

I had a perfectly fine, paid-off, Gen-3, sold for a Prius Prime that has TSS-P and top MPG.

I passed on a 2016 Gen-4, Level 3 with a moonroof instead of MPG and bought the BMW i3-REx that I ran around town today, all EV, over 70 miles. Tuesday I'll take the Prime and do some benchmarks.
