Hi. I am looking to get a 2017 Prius which has the all speed cruise control. I am curious about what the minimum speed is that it can be activated and set for.

My current car has 25mph+ active cruise and I used it for 30/40/50/60/70mph zones when traffic is quiet to prevent any speeding tickets.

Can I set it for 30 mph while at 30 for the 1st time during a journey and then later resume cruise for 30 while going 15 for example or can I only set/resume above specific speeds?

Any info you can provide would be valuable. I have searched online but don't seem to be able to find the answer.

This applies to the Mark 4 Prius only (since the Mark 3 Prius' DRCC works differently).

The minimum speed that you can set the cruise control at is 45km/h (28mph) so if you're travelling below that speed, you will have to manually maintain that speed unless you're following someone. In that case, the cruise control will still be set at 28mph but if the person in front of you is doing 15mph, you will do 15mph. If he speeds up, you will speed up. If he turns a corner, you will speed back up to 28mph.

"all-speed" means that the cruise control will work down to 0km/h in traffic. So if you're on the M'way and traffic slows to a crawl, the car will continue to follow the car in front of you. If it comes to a stop, the Prius will bring you down to a stop. Once traffic starts to move, you can either push up on the stalk or tap the accelerator to tell the car to start moving again.

For your purposes of staying below the speed limit, I think what you're looking for is the speed limiter feature. It's separate from CC as far as I know. You have to look for that button on the white part of the steering wheel (I think it's on the right spoke).

    Thanks for replying.
So basically I can set / resume at 28mph or above and then the car will do whatever the car in front is doing if they go slower.
That meets my needs. I don't use the limit function as cruise does the same thing but does all of the acceleration and braking for me ;)

Yes assuming there's someone in front. If there isn't anyone in front, strangely, you cannot set radar cruise . (but you can with the older generation). Well at least you can't set it below 25mph.

@RCO , @kithmo @GT4Prius might be able to help you out. They're all UK owners of the Mk 4.

Agree with Tideland - mine is in km/hr, you can't SET Cruise till you're doing 45km/hr (SPEEDO) or over - but the speedo is 2km optimistic, so it's really 43km/hr. If I've set it for 62km/hr (many minor suburban roads) and I come to a place where I want to use cruise, I can't resume till the speedo reads 40km/hr.

As Tideland said, it's a different story if there's a car in front. Starting cold, pull into slow traffic and you can SET Cruise even though driving only at 5km/hr - but it sets 45km/hr as the SET speed - but will play follow the leader with the car in front till that car gets above 45. You can wind the speed up to the speed-limit at any time while moving behind another car.

Not sure about the "speed limiter feature" - it's not on Australian build cars.

Huh? Whenever I turn on my cruise control it says "RADAR READY" whether or not there is somebody in front of me.

Yes, but try setting a speed without anyone in front of you ;).

Hi everybody on the thread and welcome to Ferrarilover. I have a 2016 Business Edition but don't think it will differ significantly for 2017 as the Brits don't always alter models every year like Americans.

Like ProdigyPlace, once I'm moving forward fast enough I press the button on the DCC stalk and the radar ready lights up on the coaming screen. However, I think it WILL set a radar controlled cruise speed by pushing the stalk down even if there is nothing in front of me to lock on to. It will hold the speed I was driving at when set and will assist speed up or down to the nearest 5 mph. Thereafter, a tap up will increase set speed by 5 mph and can be reported similarly a tap down will decrease by same amount. When you close up on a vehicle in front the car will slow to that one's speed unless you (signal) pull out and it maintains your set speed to overtake.

A word of caution, if you hold the DCC stalk up while in moving traffic, the set speed can increase in successive increments of 5mph but the car won't accelerate until you the traffic ahead is no longer impeding your progress. Then you will find yourself accelerating to a speed faster than you intended.

Hope that helps. Good luck with choosing your new car.

    I did that today.
With nobody in front, the screen shows the 3 blue Radar bars. If a car subsequently gets in range, it shows and speed is adjusted accordingly. This is in a US Prius.
Canada may be different, since they are International.

Before I bought the 2016, I saw that picture and saw that that Prius had dual zone auto climate control. But when the car came out, it had the rear seat air blocker :(. I wonder why they put the red and blue climate control stickers on this Prius.

It's a fuzzy picture, but I screenshoted the climate control part of the dash. Notice the left side has red and blue.

I know. I was trying to say the Prius doesn't come with dual-zone (left and right) separate auto climate control. It does have a feature where you can block the air from going in the pack seat to save gas. The picture shows dual-zone controls, which isn't available.

Perhaps it is available, but not in the US. Features vary by country.

Perhaps @RCO can verify. He has a Prius in the UK.

So, does dual-zone mean driver & passenger have separate temperature controls? My son's Civic has that but no US Gen 4 Prius does.

Yes, they have separate temperature controls. However, it doesn't really control the cabin temp unless they are synced because it doesn't work if the heater is on on one side and A/C is on on the other side. The difference is that you feel the air on your face.

which is probably why it wasn't made available in the US where fuel economy is ranked higher for the Prius. It's a comfort feature at the expense of the inefficient use of the climate control.

Yes exactly. You can't set cruise control without a car in front of you - you just get DRCC in its "READY" phase.

In the Gen 3, I can set a speed with no one in front and there will be a speed shown on the MID.

US and Canada are the same.
